question about clutching, just serviced my sled and we have a couple of inches of snow on the ground. took it for a rip around the block. I installed new belt, secondary clutch bushing and plastic ramps.. secondary is set for 1 on the sheave and 6 on the helix. cleaned all the clutches both primary and secondary. when I took the sled for a rip and locked up the track, I noticed the belt did not rebound back to the top of the secondary. I heard a weird grinding noise. I had to get off the sled and push the sled forward until the secondary rebounded. I don't think it will be an issue when I am riding since I rarely lock up the track. just wondering if this is normal or is something out of adjustment. I never really noticed this before on the sled, but I rarely lock up the track. when I tried it a couple of times again, I locked up the track and then released the brake before it came to a complete stop, everything was fine, no weird noises and the clutch engaged properly. any ideas, belt deflection is ok, wondering if I damaged the helix when I pushed out the bushing?

Your track jumped the drivers and you belt got stuck in the secondary....Its all because it locked the track in the hard ground on a hard brake.

ive done this before. know worries. if you get off the gas and on the brake and lock track the secondary cant move to roll itself closed to pop the belt back up to the top of the secondary. when you try and get back on the gas from a stopped position its like your in second gear. scared me the first time i did it also.
like you said if you release the brake before you come to a complete stop and the track can roll a couple revolutions the secondary will turn and the belt will return to the top of the seconday.ie first gear if you will.
