I came off a 2006 Apex GT and have no issues with my knees hitting the panels. I am 6'3". i went from the Apex to the Nytro, to the Viper. Viper is the best by far, just needs more legs on top end. 100MPH for me does not quite do it. i turboed my Nytro and will be turbo-ing my Viper next year

Re: knee pads
x2 on the plastic rivets, look like this 50 miles in;
that's the A/C leaking through
bigdog_mike said:I added the knee pads as I like to get up on the front of the seat to corner aggressively and no aftermarket pads were available at the time that I ordered so I purchased the Yamaha/Arcticat knee pads...only thing that bugged me was the cheesey plastic rivets that came with them, toss them into the garage and use real rivets

I have had several apex and attack's and loved them all but am having more fun on this (with turbo) than any of those. I am only 5'-8" and seem to fit this layout better. I added the pads cause I ride standing up 50% due to knees hips and back. I can stand and lean into the pads with my knees and ride rough trail at 80 all day.

The rivets with the knee pads are simply not long enough. They did not consider the layers of vinyl when they spec'd them. And they are too far inboard, knees tend to hit the outside edges. Al exploding rivets are the way to go I believe.

I am 6 ft tall. My knees hit. I installed the Yamaha knee pads with steel rivits--hope they stay.

Skinz are the way to go, they pad the inside return towards the seat/ tank as well. I find my knees are sore on the insides when aggressive riding w/ OEM pads. As far as comparison to an Apex too early to say, just got mine last week and still adding accessories and nothing but rain here in NH. Went around the yard about 5 times and it feels real good, think I'm going to like it a lot more but will probably miss top end of apex.

What pushed you Apex guys over the edge to get a Viper vs a new Apex or wait for another new sled?

Well after at least 5 rx's, 3 apex and 2 attacks I was tired of always having to fix broken skids, wheels, hyfax and other issues along with being stuck all the time. Also my back, hips and knees were being tortured. I went to Polaris Pro R 800's. I still have 1 of the 3 Pro r's.

As soon as I sit on a cat or viper my knees are right against the cowl forceing my legs to spread. I sit ahead on my apex so I try to on the new sled and don't find it comfortable.

2 seating position.
3 Fuel milage. The 9 gallon tank on the EPS Apex was not cutting it.
4 I always compared the Apex with that super hot psyco girl friend that some of us had....when things and conditions were right it was quite a ride, but there were times and things that drove you nuts that you could't change.

Weight! Love my Apex XTX, w/ the EPS its the easiest steering sled I've ever owned (on trail), takes the heavy feel out of the sled but get it stuck off trail and it F'n weighs 700 lbs! Viper should be around 100 lbs +/- lighter (wet weight).

Couldn't agree more with number 4

Probably numbers 2 and 3 are what drove me to the Viper. Not enough miles yet to know how good a move it was....

Coming off an 06 Apex RTX to an Viper LTX SE. Im 6 foot and notice the knee rub a little. I will eventually add knee pads, but its certainly not a big deal. I don't miss the Apex at all. The Viper outshines the Apex in almost every way IMO. Obviously the Apex has more power, but I really don't notice too much difference below 80 MPH.
