The Viper is hands down a better handling sled than my XTX was. The Nytro front end was never going to be good no matter what I did to it--shocks, springs, skis, spindles.... My Viper has a little push but I'll take that over the heavy steering and twitchiness on the XTX.

ive had a nytro just sold it to buy the viper. totally diferent animal i must say. ill never go back to my nytro. my nytro was way to heavy. everything is better about my viper. ive had both tracks its a bit different in the corners now but no big deal. just get use 2 it.I have an 09 Nytro XTX and I love a lot about the sled. It has been flawlessly reliable and the power on tap is beyond anything I could ever use. All I have ever done to it is to add yamaheaters to improve the heated grips and added Yamaha tuner skis to resolve the darting.
My big complaint is the effort required to steer the sled. After 2 long days riding, my arms and shoulders are ready to fall off. I do all trail riding and when in the twisty trails the sled is a bit of a boat with the front weighted skis and long track.
Can any of you EX Nytro owners tell me how you like your Vipers compared to your Nytro's. Pro's and con's?
Do you regret selling your Nytro?
Is the steering effort lighter on the Viper?
How is the short track compared to long for trail use if you have tried both?

I put float 3 evol rc2s on the front, have adjustable valving.
Its the stupid skid shocks that need adjustable valving.

The only way the nytro was better is the power...the viper is better in every other way,and once you and a few bolt ons It will be just as good in the power department, rode an LTX with the full Excell package and it was impressive to say the least.no regrets here.

Ask my father if he likes the new PC's or phones. He will tell you how his old DOS PC booted everytime and never crashed one time. Sure the new one will drive multiple monitors and run multiple apps on top of one another, it is still junk to him.
His OLD phone always placed the call and never dropped one (sure dad). The new phone is junk. Sure it will gps, entertain etc. It is still junk to him.
Change is always hard.
It took 3 seasons and over 5000 miles before I really "got" my NytroXTX - it was the longest learning curve I have ever had on a sled. The first season I really wanted to trade it off, but the style was made for me so I stuck it out. I am glad I did. I am sure there are faster sleds out there and I'm sure there are faster riders however I HAVE NEVER BEEN PASSED BY ONE OF THEM ON MY NYTRO.
So far on the Viper the learning curve is faster (one season in and it is dialing in fast).
It feels a lot lighter riding
Way less fatigue at the end of the day compared to the nytro.
I still have the Nytro and still choose to ride the Viper.
Me, I'll take the Viper and my father can enjoy his old sled (it is much lighter anyway).

Oh my GOD, I am sure we must be related as you just described my Father in Law. If it is electric and is not coal powered it is junk. LOL

So... just reading thru this, I'm getting that the Viper XTXs ride & steer rougher & take more time setting up than a LTX & shorty?

I've been very pleased with my Viper RTX SE. Suspension and handling are great, steers light, - checks pretty much all of my boxes overall. Yes, power is down a bit from the Nytro, but the pros seem to outweigh any of the cons. The fit/finish isn't nearly as good as an Apex. But I would say it is on-par with the Nytro.
Having come from a Nytro RTX, I think back of all the things that I used to complain about on the Nytro:
- heavy steering even with a Skinz front end
- cheap stock gauge
- seating too low
- poor shock valving
- ice build-up in the tunnel
- crappy handwarmers & querky warmer controls
- cold ride
- failing exhaust donuts
- premature wear on a-arm bushing
- bent subframe
- small gas tank
I'm sure I could list more, and all of those items can be fixed/improved - most of which can be found here on TY. But when you compare that to the list of items I have done on my Viper, I've really only done cosmetic things to it. Yes, I'm working on the power/clutching as many others are. But if you are OK with stock clutching/power, then you can check that off your list.
As others have said, it comes down to what you really want in a sled. I loved my Nytro - just had gripes about it that could eventually turn it into a great sled. But the Viper in itself pretty much fixes all my gripes.

Not at all, the XTX with its fox floats handles like a dream if you do just one change, and that is the skid front shock spring change. Even my Doo buddy marvel at how light and cushy my Viper feels.

Not at all, the XTX was never designed to be a groomed trail rocket, if you want to do that with it then you will then be prepared to spend time and money to redesign it. You're trying to make a Lincoln Town Car a sprint car. Take it off trail in the snow or pound it over crappy hard drifts and you will be hard pressed to find a better sled.
Fifteen years ago guys would have given their (left nut and first born) to have an XTX for a mountain sled, now its just an amazing crossover.
