How are we suppose to use this stuff? Pour it in the gas or in the crank case? The bottle says to pour it in the gas for cleaning the fuel system, and pour it into the crank case for removing carbon from the piston rings etc. My concern is this, aren't you watering down the oil by pouring it into the crank case and where does the carbon go? Take Yamaha's ring free, that stuff you pour into a full gas tank and when you use all that gas they tell you to change the oil becuase of all the contaminents now suspended in the oil. I did this on my daughters Saturn that was consuming oil at the rate of 1 qt per 300-500 miles. The oil was jet black when I changed it (because of the carbon) and the consumption was stretched to over 1,500 miles per qt now.

I put it in both the oil and the gas. It did turn the oil very black and the exhaust tips were much darker too. I ran out of season before I could see any results. About 150 miles. Now I am switching to low compression pistons, so I will never know if it had any effect.

I have not used it in the oil, but I have used it in gas. On everything I own Seafoam has been through the fuel system and I have not noticed results. However, I forgot the weed trimmer and it was getting bogged down, poured some Seafoam in and it cleared it up, and that was a few summers ago. I've heard a few auto and motorcycle shops have used it with great results.

I dont know if seafoam is anything like the engine oil cleaner we use at my work(BG FLUSH) to remove carbon deposits and Flush the crankcase but basically it loosens the dirt, carbon, varnish and puts it into suspension in the oil and you are not supposed to drive the vehical with it in the oil as it ruins the bearings etc..
Adding it to the oil would make me kinda Nervous!!

When you put it in the oil, don't the instructions say to run it until hot, then drain it??

I believe it said to put a couple of hundred miles on before changing the oil. It is a 100% petroleum product. It hasn't adversely affected my engine.

The instructions say nothing about changing the oil, only how much seafoam to add.

For diesel and small engines, it says dump the oil 1 hour after adding to the crank case.

Where did you read that? It's not on the can label nor did I find it on their website.JDKRXW said:For diesel and small engines, it says dump the oil 1 hour after adding to the crank case.
We put a 1/3 or half can in each gas fill just like we did when we added isopropal.
If we have a machine that burns oil we add one can to the gas, full tank, and one can to the oil. We then run (drove) most of the gas out, then we change the oil and filter. The oil is then very black. We then run a full can in the gas for two tanks. If the oil is again black we add a can to the oil and drive about 50 miles and again change the oil and filter again. This process has stopped oil burning in five sleds that I personell know of.
Then we go to the 1/3 can per tank and the oil consumption remained under control. My sled was burning a quart of oil in 3250 miles. After this process my sled went over 6000 miles and never needed oil between changes of 2,000 miles.

Scooby, If you change your oil every 2,000 miles. How did you know your sled was burning a quart every 3,500 miles. Using one quart of oil every 3,500 does not seem like a big deal to me.
