Just out of quriousity has anyone ever attempted to put the head and cams out of a R1 into the apex to gain back the 180hp? If so is there a writeup on here on how it was done?

My understanding is its a totally different motor 16 valve vs 20 valve but I could be wrong.

yes but all the changes as fas as i know were in the top end. couldnt a guy just simply swap over everything above the pistons? Seems a simple enough way to gain 30 hp....no?

Apex heads are basicly the same so why change heads? Sounds like the RX1 used the early R1 bike cams! Later 4 vale heads use different cams! Head is on backwards so probably will not fit! There may be aftermarket cams for the Apex! They cost big bucks.

If you have a large pocketbook try this!

You want 180hp best way is add a Yamacharger and keep rpms down and hp up for probably less money!

Thing about it is, clutches would never holdup to R1 RPMs, Apexs run 10-11k RPM, an R1 motor at peak HP is prob running around 13-13.5k. Not sure clutches are designed for those RPM...at the least the primary. I could be wrong tho.

Power by GNS....... Unreal! It is nice to see top shelf work! Cant imagine that kind of power even in the right chassis.....Apex heads are basicly the same so why change heads? Power by GNS used to have a primary gear reduction set to allow increased crankshaft RPM while maintaining the desired primary clutch efficiency RPM for that reason.Thing about it is, clutches would never holdup to R1 RPMs, Apexs run 10-11k RPM, an R1 motor at peak HP is prob running around 13-13.5k. Not sure clutches are designed for those RPM...at the least the primary. I could be wrong tho.

So if i had the r1 top end and the propper gear reduction.......this still wouldnt work? Just think 180hp with keeping all reliability. NA to boot. Probubly cheaper then forced induction.

Then figure out how to get the R1 ignition timing and fuel curves in the Apex ECU to accommodate the additional 2K RPM's , it takes more than just cams...

I think it would take much more then dropping on R1 heads and cams. If it was so easy and cheap to do there would be a ton of them built!
