I just bought a new 07 Phazer. It has all the updates and a fan installed. Is it necessary to cover the radiator to prevent it from becoming snow packed when carving in powder? If so, where can I get a mesh or screen cover?

I cant really comment on if it necessary to have, but yamaha now offers a protective grill for like 40$. I know alot of guys on here bought there own mesh and created there own cover.
This is what I made for mine, I have drilled new holes in between all of the other ones.It wouldn't load up, so look in an old post of mine. It is under "who is making changes on there Phazers this summer" Do a search.

If it's only powder riding theres no worry, however if you're riding hardpack behind other sleds it would be wise to protect the rad.
Here's a link to some fixes posted last spring.

I just ordered some perforated aluminum from online metals. it is 51% open, hope that is enough. I'm gone to bend it up to fit the plastic cover like a lot of others have done, then powder coat it black.
Pat... were did you get the mesh... is it aluminum? If the stuff I got doesn't look like it flows enough I'll be looking for something like the mesh.

The mesh shown on some of the photos seems to me to be a little too big to me. Has anyone checked the rad after last year using this size mesh cover?
I made up a cover just last week. My screen has a bit smaller mesh size.
I found an old 12 hour wood burner and robbed the screen from the outside casing. Cut it to size and riveted one side to a small aluminum angle. Used the rad fastener bolt to fasten the angle to the sled. Screen was very easy to bend to form fit around rad. Painted the whole thing black and you can hardly tell with the side panel on that it's not stock.
It should serve the purpose.

I did almost exactly the same thing with light guage steel expanded metal. Used steel because of resistance to bending easy.
As for hole size, I rode Jan. - Apr. last year with NO cover. I think it'll be enough.
Check mine out, I did thread I just don't know how to attatch it.
