Rage Idler Wheels

I just changed my hyfax after 1000 miles. They had two spots that wore bad. Just in front of the front idler wheel and right around the rubber bottoming stopper(which was worse than the front). I was looking at idler wheel placement and there is a large span between the second set of outboard idlers and the third inboard set. I was looking how they were mounted and thought that it would be real easy to slide the second set back about 8-10". this would greatly reduce the span between the second and third set of idlers. So long as I paid attention to where the top idlers came down to and ensured there would be no interference I think I should be all right. I was wondering if anybody knew if there was any reason that YAMAHA put the second set of idlers so close to the first set or any other reason why I would not want to try moving the wheels back a little. With the groove in the slide rails I figure locating the mounting holes should be a breeze. just clamp them in place and drill right through the holes in the idler bracket

To TTW I also have high HY-fax wear on my 05 venture. Was looking at the suspension and figuring ut how to mount a pair of extra polaris whees that I had laying around in front of the rear axle wheels when I noticed that the only boogie wheel on the outside of the skid wasnt touching the track. That means it wasn't carrying any weight at all. I took the wheel off and found that the way the casting is made that carries this wheel is open at the back side and does not locate well at the slide rail. Lossened up the bolt and slid it back down and then it was located correctly.
I know this won't last so I am in the process of making a bushing for the back side to locate this boggie wheel in the correct place on the slide rail and keep it there. I know this won't solve everything but it will at least make this wheel carry some weight and lighten the load on the slides.

To TTW After I looked at the YAMAHA brochure I realized my problem does not apply to you. Maybe its just the RS venture but possibly also the vector that has the plastic guide wheel where the torsion spring lays right behind the front outside boogie wheel that will slip up do to its design

Just thought I'd let you know my friend has an 05 Venture with plastic wheels and he said they were noisey and got his dealer to exchange them for rubber wheels...dont no if this will help anyone with a venture or not? My rage has rubber wheels I dont know why they have hard plastic wheels on the venture anyways?? :?

To Tourer
I looked at my sled last night and saw that It was different from the Venture. No Biggie! I do think that I will be getting another set of wheels to put on the front of my suspension and I will be moving the second set a little farther back. Seems useless to have two sets within 4 inches of each other and then have wear a foot behind them!

Hey Tork will that Hauck large wheel kit work up in the front of the track you think where the most wear is in the bend?

No at the bend 2 wheels of the MAXX kit or tghe one Yamaha sells would be best.
BUT
on my Vector I am mot having a problem at the bend. It is in the long wheeless span in front of the rear axel. I gotta say that once it got down to 3/16 of an inch in that area it appears to have stopped wearing.

Tfin, I really am pretty sure you dont need all 6 wheels. Im sure Maxx would sell you the 2 or 4 that you DO need.

No, at the bend 2 wheels of the MAXX kit or the one Yamaha sells would be best vs the Hauck. I like the Hauck though for the large span in front of the rear axel because it has replaceable bearings.

That would be better. I, as others, have had a significant amount of wear to begin with. But this seems to have stopped, or at least lessened quite a bit now at 640 miles.

We just got slammed with 15-20 inches of snow here in Maine, so I don't think burning hyfaxes will be an issue right now!
