I just ran out of gas with the Viper. A little before, the sled started to smell weird, and a minute later, it started to bug, and then just die. Cycling the fuel pump and it sounded: no fuel.
So I put 10L of gas in it, cycle it 10 times, and still the sound like if there was no fuel in the tank.
Fired it, and started, but was running poor. So I came home(1 kilometer) and the sled just die in tront of the garage when I left off the throttle. Tried to start it again... nothing. Just cranking. And the fuel pump sound was special.
Let it repose for 15min.
Retry and it started immediately, running as good as a new.
Do you think the fuel pump could have been attacked?
thanks

I was with someone that ran out of fuel and it ran bad for awhile like it was on two cylinders and it had this problem for awhile. It seems like they don't like to run out of fuel!
Mine did that early on and when I got gas in it, it would only run on 2 cylinders like it was vapor locked in the rail.

So what all of you are saying, if at all possible, don't run it out of gas.

Air in the fuel line
My Nytro did the same thing last year on me. Ran it out of gas 1 mile from town. Got a ride with a guys wife (smokin hot one
I will say) got a gallon of gas and put it in the sled. Took awhile and it ran like crap at first...all good now!
I know now that once it bumbles on take off, I only have 1-2 miles. Not pushing it anymore....I will have someone bring me to get fuel or tow it in at that point.

So how much gas did it take when you filled it from empty?

Oh man...that was last year.... Don't remember. All I remember was trying to hold on to the hottness driving me to the gas station and back to my sled...holding onto a gas can and her with 1 arm.

I should have that kind of luck!!! I always end up on the back with a 300 pounder
Last Sunday we were in the UP and rode to Pats Yamaha in greenland then filled up. Rode to twin lakes and headed back down. Pat's closed at 2 pm and everything else went out of business. Had to ride to the Hoop & Hollar total of 87 miles. Low fuel light was on for 15 miles. At the Hoop I took 10.1 gals!!!!! I am going to buy a camel pack and carry 10 gallons on my back.

LMAO!

Yeah Nos you LMAO now but I was biting my nails for those 15 miles. The last time that happened it went lean as it ran out of gas and I think started all my troubles that eventually blew the motor.
But any how I am glad you get a laugh out of my misery
Just remember it loves company.
Worst part of all of it is do the math 87 miles 10 gals gas 8.7 mpg Yikes!!! I have a 525 hp dart that gets 4.5 it has an 11 gal tank and when I go to a car show I have to stop at least once on the way there and once on the way home to make it. First time I drove it the engine died. I was having other electrical issues that I assumed caused it, so I called for a tow truck and $240 later found out it was out of fuel

AC has an auxiliary tank that goes on the back and is plumbed directly to the main tank. Holds another 5 gallons. So if you don't care about the extra weight that extra gas may help out.

Thats ok talked to a budd with a tanker going to have him follow and re-fuel on the fly
I just checked my receipts the other day last trip did 430 miles spent over $215 in fuel and $40 in octane booster

I really don't think any of us bought a Viper for gas mileage and if you did, you should of bought a 600 ace. You have to pay for speed no matter what! So really who cares?!
If your going on longer trips you can get way better gas mileage by just chilling and not in the throttle. I don't really know anyone that rides that way. In a big group maybe, but with some buddies, well that's not the time to check fuel mileage!

I was LMAO at your 300 pounder
I hear ya about race cars and poor fuel milage....I had a 76 Pro-street pickup with a 496BBC, dual quad offenhouser intake with 2 AFB Carter 4's. 963 horse on the engine dyno at The Speed Shop in Seymore, WI. The engine had 12.5:1 compression, ran on straight race fuel and got 3.8 miles to the gallon on the Hot Rod Power tour in 1998. There was a 1990 long box truck that followed me with (16) 5 gallon can of race fuel. He also had the open trailer if problems occured. You don't even want to know the price of fuel that trip.....

I believe that completely as I have seen more than a few engines detonated to death from running out of fuel.
