I have 86 miles on my 09 nytro mtx, and I dont know if im just worrying or if the noise is normal. At idle it has just a tight rattling noise then as you increase r's you cant really hear it. I this normal for being brand new?

Yes, If you remove your primary bolt you will see where the shoulder on the bolt is contacting the internal thds of the primary. If you add an extra flat washers or turn the shoulder down on a lathe and add some electrical tape, just ahead of the shoulder, to a diameter slightly larger than the shoulder. When you thd the bolt back in the internal thds of the primary will compress the electrical tape and cushion the harmonics that are transmitted into the cltuch bolt (similar to a tuning fork). this will "deaden" the noise substantially. Worked for me and my cousin anyway.

Interesting - I haven't heard of that solution.
I have about 700 K and my clutch rattles like an old 90's Arctic Cat... A local mechanic told me it was the harmonics of the triple, but that nothing could really be done. I was wondering how this is possible if it's the same basic primary, and no other triples vibrate (I've owned both a Viper and Vector with silent clutches..)
So - why the Nytro?

i had a Vector also and it rattled just as bad. and yes it is claimed to be from the harmonics. a two stroke doesn't have all the valves and cams so that is probably the difference If you look real close at your primary bolt you will see some thd marks about half way down the bolt Yamaha shouold have an alum sleeve that fits into the clutch or something to help with the vibration. I know back on the old exciters we had a problem with primary bolts breaking and that was the fix.

I was wondering the same thing about the rattle. I've heard it from day 1 and was a littled worried. Thanks for the info!!

Does the kit they came out with in 05 to help the clutch rattle work here. Figured they would have sent them all out with the kit after all the noise that started even before that. When I had it done back in 05 on my Vector, Yamaha picked up the whole tab.

I also heard that if you have the spider shimmed it will relieve a lot of the rattle. Apparently you have to take it to the dealer to have the spider spun off then put 20 thou shims behind the spider.
I have not done either and I hate the sound the clutch makes!! It is on my list of things to do!

tried the o-ring, same result as the electrical tape but sometimes the o-ring stays inside the clutch and gets in the way if bolt is removed.
