rb3 tuning

low elevations its around 1.6X range (atm pressure)

higher elevation (in mountains) its more like 1.3X (atm pressure up there)

rb3 would need datalogging capabilities....

AND

a ECT fuel table.

AND

BARO table.

would be much better then

have to remember its always corrections to a stock ecu.... not exactly tuned like a typical SD system

So you are adjusting your low voltage setting on your map (load table) to account for the elevation change. A lot of the maps that I see start with the voltage way to low. Its by far not a SA but for $600 it allows you quite a bit of tuning.

i'm not sure what was going on, but the last time i used it in the mountains, i shut the sled off and it wouldnt start again, so i towed it down and had to rent a sled. ended up unplugging the rb3 box at home and it fired up. tried with my buddies software to see what was going on, and couldnt read the box. sent it back to powderlites, and they told me there was no program in the box, not sure how or why it just erased itself. so they sent it back, i hooked it up and the sled was so rich at 1800 feet, it was totally pointless to try it at 7000 feet. i'd rather ride a sled than play with the laptop on top of a mountain for a day, so the rb3 is sitting on the shelf. i'm sure some people have gotten it to work well, but i've been reading mixed reviews lately. imo, its a piece of crap, but thats just me i guess.

I believe the box can erase the map if a voltage surge occurs. I think you can get a voltage surge from water in electrical connections. I always tape the connecting to the ignition key switch. The way the Nytros are positioned, they fill up with water, we had this issue on a boosted Nytro. I tore my sled apart earlier this year to do some head work and when we hooked it all back up my map had been erased, must have been happened when we unplugged the box or ????.

Mine erased onece too.... causing all kind of headaches.... because I had no way to program it with me that day.

NEVER GO OUT WITH RB3 WITHOUT YOUR LAPTOP!

Dynojet incorporates, 3/2 bar, ignition, fuel, a/f, and it has outputs to activate meth, nitrous, blow-offs, etc. I am not getting paid to advertise, (though I wouldn't mind a sponsorship from dynojet, lol) I am just a satisfied user. All of the above devices all tie into a 2x4" (approx.) lcd screen that has a memory card that can save different maps for power, economy, severe elevation changes. I live in maine so I don't really ride in extreme elevations, but I do ride mostly in the mountains here which top out at 4500 feet and I have yet to feel much of a difference going from sea-level to there. With the lcd screen you can change fuel/timing in 3 rpm ranges (low, mid, high), and see and data-log all of the devices. Most guys swear by the rb3 which I have no opinion, all I can say is that of all of my problems I have had my dyno-jet system has yet to fail me, hope I didn't just jinx myself. I run a blower so I'm not sure about the turbo systems, but I know this system can handle all the boost you can throw at it as long as you have the pump, regulator, injectors, to handle the fuel volume needed. Not to mention dyno-jet has great customer service and they have a person that specializes in sleds. Ulmer racing is another source for devices, maps, and knowledge, Thanks Allen! I have my sled running tip-top from just data-logging on the lake and I can't wait to get it on Hurricane's Dyno so I can really analyze timing and fuel!

Right on LOVE MY RB3 and as time goes on it gets better and better!!The GEM box is not even close! So so jerky down low all most unsafe when filling up for gas or loading sled. Thank you for all your help Dave on my S.C.Nytro and it is not even your kit!! WOW

Thank you Skydog/Matt P.S. I have two GEM boxs for sale cheap if you want them....haha

Alright Skydog we need to find a big flat field out by your house so we can do some tuning with the rb3 systems

Rapid bike 3 can run up to 100% duty cycle same as Dobeck which is Purelogic, MPI, and many others are all the same with different programing.
RB3 is like having a stand alone system with real mapping.
A lot of guys are knocking the RB3 that do not have any knowledge about EFI.
If LOAD setup and Voltage is not setup to run in the map properly then the whole system is out of whack. Add timing in the bottom end for quick throttle response and retard/pull timing with boost for more HP without detonation.
A proper map with also give great fuel mileage.
Even with Tuning Bike you have to know how to use it to make proper maps.
Anyone that has seen what we do with a sled using RB3 knows how much better we make it run.
I have always been a tuner since the late 70's on Motorcycles, snowmobiles etc.
We get a lot of guys running RB3 with a 2 bar map sensor and they need a 3 bar sensor to run over 15 psi boost.
You cannot run more then 15 lbs boost with a 2 bar Map sensor!!
Bring us your Boosted sled with whatever kit you have and we will make it smoke your buddies same setup hands down.

can you explain this in laymans terms please

Powderlites said that..

if you have a map that is made to go from -5in to +24 psi ... for an example..

if you set you ranges so that rb3 tune between -10 and +18 psi... for an example.... how do you think its gonna work? its almost not possible.

Same problem happen when moving form sea level to 8000ft.... suddenly, 15 psi of boot goes form 30psiA to... something like 26 psiA.... and this is what cause all problems with the rb3.... because the stock ecu compensate correctly for the baseline, then the rb3 does not add enough fuel anymore for that 15 psi of boost because it sees it as only 11 psi of boost (26psiA) in this example.

A full standalone would not have this problem because it does not have anybaseline to compensate for.

Okay then how do you make the rb3 work, for elevation change or is this not possible. Myself I ride around 2400 ft most of the winter but jump up to 4500- 7000 every now and then. and only ride up there in the spring. but don't want to be toteing a laptop arpund with me tuning for a hour before i can ride.

Make a map for a hyjacker at that elev. or install a stand alone that works off tb pressure only. Sounds simple but I am exp. enough to know that powderlites is this best expert in this department.
