I am in the process of stretching my 121 to a 128 using the Star kit and a 1.375 cobra track. I ride 75% trails/ditch banging and the rest boondocking.
Do I need to keep the rear axle and wheels in its stock configuration (wheels outside of rails) or can I move the rear axle wheels between the rails without affecting high speed stability or accessive hyfax wear?

get the OFT 2 wheel axel kit and call it a day!
the jury is still out on the two questions you have about stability and hyfax wear, no one can give you the right answer, it all comes to personal fit... some say a 2 wheel kit doesnt affect stability and some that do.
