Rear heat exchanger

Well good bad or indifferent this is how I have it installed

Just to show another way to do it this is what I did on my '06 Attak. I wanted to be able to bolt it in so as you can see I've got it bolted on at the front and at the rear I drilled out the two inner holes for the snow flap and used those to bolt the rear on. I originally thought that 1" square tubing would be thick enough but I ended up having to add two layers of quarter inch flat stock before there was no more contact, by looking at it you wouldn't think it would have to be that thick but it does. That was with Woody's 1.325 signature series studs. Pretty inexpensive, just hardware store stuff. Ideally it would have been nice to have it welded together but pop rivets worked just fine. :)

I agree with the dvise from 1 Touzan. Based on the interference I found on my 11 Apex. I added an additional 1/2" of protection to the rear cooler. I now have a total of 1.5" of exchanger protection.

You have to have 1 1/2 in of protection right over the cooler. Taper the protection down to nothing just behind the upper bogey wheels. This is for those of us who cut the OEM tunnel protectors to make way for the cooler. I had 1 in and had scraping. Many others have shown we need 1 1/2. I'm a huge guy at 275lbs dressed and don't bottom out with the new big boy spring and shock revalve. Also adjusted the shock for more height. I got 5K or more now and haven't scraped again.

still don't have a rear exchanger in my 06 apex and since dropping to a 50/50 mix with water wetter seldom does the light turn on the xp 800's i ride with have much worse problems than i doo, last time mine went off was 2 miles of road running to get fuel with zero snow.
guys finding the rear exchanger really helps that much?

I've read posts were guys have done the water wetter and 50/50 mix and still had problems so they installed the cooler.
I have stock mixture since 07. I put the cooler on right after buying the machine due to others posting on overheating. I haven't had a light go on at all but have rode with many folks with Cat's,Doo's,Yami's that over heated and had to wait or help pack snow in the machine for them. My Hyfax will wear right down though because I don't have any Ice Scratchers.. Maybe this year. I had the Mid wheel kit so no easy install was there but they have been trashed and removed so now I can easily put Ice Scratchers on.

Absolutly. I would say the machine runs an average of 20 degrees cooler all of the time....worth it to me.

OK Thanks to Darv I don't think I will be suck trailside without any coolant left in my machine

I bought some 1*1.5 aluminum welded on some flat stock to close it in (making it prettier)
Welded on side brackets and bolted to the preexisting tunnel protector and then riveted it to the back.

That looks great and I like the way it connects to the rear piece where the snowflap is .I bet it stiffens that area which seems weak on my sled.I decided to drop the tunnel protector becauce it looks like it was hitting about a foot forward on a support. Then I screwed a piece of plastic to the bottom of the rail to give me the 1 1/2"of protection.

Do you need the protectors if running an Ice Ripper track? This is with a heavy rider also....

I would think it would still hit occassionally but I doubt it would cause the same damage as regular studs?
Just a guess however so do what makes you feel comfortable?
