Well my wife finally gave in on the last day of the year. LOL!

I broke a cheap 30 torx bit trying to get the bolt out. Got a better one and stripped the bolt. Ended up cutting off the bolt head with a grinder. I have a bolt in it for now with plenty of anti seize.

Once the head was off, the threaded piece of the bolt turned out with ease. It seams like the bolt head is seizing to the material.

Guess I will hit the hardware store for a thumb screw as others have done here.

I broke a Craftsman T30 Torx socket bit trying to get my seat bolt removed. I then used an impact driver on a new T30 socket bit and the seat bolt came right out. Once the head was loose the threads spun very easily. The bolt was not cross threaded but rather just way too tight IMO.

I had the same seat bolt due to it being aluminum it marred the threads and I had to replace the nut it threads too as well. Nice looking but to soft of a material for a bolt. Be careful threading it in and out.

Thanks for the warning. I do not plan on removing the seat on a regular basis so I am hoping it is fine. I am more worried about rubbing a hole in my large rear bag but I think it should be fine.

Once again EVO sells a hood kit that comes with the seat dzus fastener, yes it costs more than the cheap bolts but worth it sys the "do everything cheap" guy.

Just checked Face Book. Ulmer has a new product listed: 'New SR Viper quick seat removal bolt! $19.95 + shipping. Stainless steel construction, large knurled head for ease of removal.' He also has a picture there. Looks like a good option.

So after reading this thread I went out to my shop and tried to take my seat off ,and low and behold it was a mother hucker,so I broke out a good bit and a ratchet and pulled that thing out and thur it a far as I could.i was planning on leaving it out,but then I saw this (see picture ) and thought something like that would be cool,so I pulled one off and it was the right thread size,took out the cut off wheel shortened it and dab of anti seize ,screwed it in ,done, works perfect took ten min

That's the idea,has a little meat to it so you can put some torque on it,don't forget a dap of anti seize

As said before I went dzus fastener as I have lost the hand tightened seat screw on my Harley. Nothing wrong with going with the cheap one though, if it falls out get another.

112 posts so far about whats needed to fix this seat screw problem this is a Yamaha forum for sure, i'm loving it.... haha

I can tell you we rode in the hills yesterday and the snow was fair but still lots of good riding and never once did that seat screw cross my mind so theirs still hope..

Speaking of screws, I lost my clutch side panel thumb screw yesterday. I must have forgot to tighten it and it feel out in the woods some place
