Went to adjust rear shock on my 08 apex gt and no go? Pressed mode button on the console and it wouldn't goto shock setting icon. Any ideas before I go to Yammy to get it looked at.

Do a search on broken Ohlins EC wire and read for days. This gets brought up a lot.

You see, ice build up in the tunnel wrecks the wire. Yamaha issued a bulletin on a manner to double the wire back behind and then run a lot of zip ties along the wire's route up to the tunnel where the wire enters the hole on the side of the tunnel. Been there done that.

Well, it can still break even then if the ice is bad enough. Been there done that too. Oh ya, currently there again.....

Bottom line is the wire for the Ohlins EC is not durable enough. I'm just calling a spade a spade. I've hassled with it for a few years now.

What I've heard happens (when the wire breaks and the connetion is lost) is your compression reverts to a mid position (Not your last used position, from the last time you operated your Ohlins EC, from before it was broken) and holds there until you get the wire fixed, the connection is re-established, and it can again read your chosen compression setting.

So your choices are to

1. live with it as is, which is not a bad idea.

2. To fix it/ replace the EC solenoid and/ or EC wire.

3. Or lastly, to have your EC system reomved once and for all and have a clicker installed on top of it (my future choice after this riding season).

Oh wait..... there is a fourth choice: Get a Fox Mega Float.

Hmmmmmmm.......

Broken wire forsure, when repaired add as many zipties as will fit. 8-grand and not one problem works great, and also keep enough slack for it to move with skid as it articulates up and down. good luck!

Broken wire once ! Fuse and then had the EC solenoid replaced work for two rides now dealer doesnt know why it doesnt work anymore thinking their might be a problem with the pod ?
Tried another shock from another machine still doesnt work . Im now leaving it alone !

6000 miles on my Apex GT with no wire issue. I had the shock out twice to be rebuilt. The key is "overkill" on the ZIP ties.

No disrespect to anyone, but even 300 zip ties won't save the wire under circumances where there is a lot of ice. Both my dealer, following the bulletin, and myself the same way have fixed mine over and over.

I use scratchers and my skid really ices up big time every ride, which I suspect contributes heavily to my wire breaking. But I get minimal slider wear.

I'm just going to have Bjowett re-create mine to a top clicker for compression on my shock with a stiffer revalve this summer.

I wouldn't think one sled makes more ice than others. Gotta be something else! Like not run in the proper way, and gettin ripped out. There is no way for ice to get at it if its run right. Its like fused to the axel and the side of tunnel. How bout the metel spring thing on side of tunnel, are ya hooking that to it too?Its just to tight to get ripped out over and over, Try something new, cause the old way ain't workin for ya!

Put on 11k with no problems...

But when I removed the ohlins to put on the mega float I noticed the wire getting damage near the white conector near the shock so I decided to investigate, on mine I had black electric tape from the con, going up about 3", (factory) when I removed the tape the wires were exposed, the insulator stops about 3" from the conector...

That were mine was getting weak and just about to break...

What's up with that... Wouldn't it make sence for the wire insulator/protector be the full length right to the conector...

Yes.zip-tie,zip-tie zip-tie++ and on the tunnel tight zip-tie.no issues! 7000mi and i do drive my machine hard, even jump the thing and that track will not touch it.i do check for ice quite a bit tho.. ;)!
