Front arm shock exploded tonight on a ride, was about 5 miles in to the ride and it felt like something was bottoming out, looked around and saw a lot of oil in the track, got it home and found that the shock pulled apart, any possibility this is a warranty thing ? Never seen a shock do this before

I would definitely bring it in for warranty.

What model by chance? My ltx se blew that shock out last at 1800 miles after it rode terribly stiff since new. When I sent it out the shock guy said that 1 more turn of the body and it would've blown apart. He said the shock was physically unscrewing itself.

14 xtx with 2500 miles, after looking at it more the shock cap was more than halfway out and ripped the threads out, ordered one next day air bc I have a trip planned this weekend but I'm still going to show the dealer

Are the limiter straps in stock position? Just trying to figure out how the threads got ripped out. I have seen this once before on a cat and it was from stretched straps. Allowed the shock to be the stop rather than straps. Shock should have to be compressed to fit bolt in with suspension hanging in air. If not it will do it again.

thats what i had thought at first but i had tightened them up one hole, i will post a pic after work of the shock body, the cap was unscrewed halfway before it ripped out

Glad you checked. Hope they warranty it for you.

Just FYI there is no Loctite. It just needs to be tight on cap.

Just a update dealer put it in for warranty but made me pay for the parts up front, said he doesn't think they will warranty it. After I got the parts home I noticed even tho I had pulled the limiters in the skid still needed to be pulled in to get the shock lined up, ended up pulling the limiters all the way in before I was able to collapse the shock slightly

Anyone know what the factory setting is on the limiters? I feel like this was not set right from the factory or the straps stretched, I have them pulled as far in as they can go and the shock was only compressed less than 3/8 of a inch
The limiters typically do not stretch. With the shock installed you need to compress the front arm slightly to get the first setting of the limiter. The limiter will have tension on it at this point and prevent the shock from slamming at full extension. The limiter is a very fine adjustment.

My LTX DX the straps are set one hole #1 from the factory (the longest)Anyone know what the factory setting is on the limiters? These are now set the the shortest setting I'm wondering if this has the wrong shock installed from the beginning
I doubt it is the wrong shock. Check that you have the front arm installed properly if you removed it. We saw one mounted upside down this weekend. The wire rods face up.
The limiter should be in the farthest hole as long as it goes as delivered.
