reasonable sale $ for 06 bars

Yama I paided 40.00, found them on ty here. Any were around there should be a ok deal. Putting mine on this summer, sick of cold hands and gaunlets. Jeff

bought mine from a guy on here, $30 INCLUDING shipping. They work great on my 07. Best change I have made!

Hwy can you guys refresh me...I bought a set on Ebay for my 07 that I picked up at the end of the season. (paid 60.00 on Epay)
Anyhow...Are the 06 a direct plug and play? I don't need to do anything other than change everything over right? I bought them in April, Summerized the sled that week and have not looked at it since...but I think I want to tackle is some time soon so I'm not doing it right before the season. Got to put 550 miles on the GT last 3 days in March before the season closed in the UP. Love the sled so far...but the warmers wgot piping hot once or twice when i first rode it...but then after that first day they seemed to only get luke warm and it was in the upper 20's low 30's during the day. (strange) Somethings up with them so thats why I bought the 06 bars after seeing some buzz on here. Oh...and after installing the 06 bars did I see somewhere that I don't want to go over 3-4 bars or I will pop a fuse???
I parted out my 05 RX (better than trading it in) and I need to catch up on the Apex side of things around here.

Thanks guys...

i hope someone replys to this, i'm in same boat as you, about to tackle the job for a new season. spoke with a few yami dealers in northern ontario & they say i'm nuts. as in it won't work. i can only rely on the online replys here. i don't want to freeze another season !
maybe we shouls start a new post on this ?

Snowdog,

On an '07 Apex simply plug in the '06 bars and enjoy hot hands. No other modification is required.

As you mentioned, a couple of bars should be plenty. Some guys have reported testing this set-up on high for a while with no ill effects to the electrical system, but the grips get stupid hot!

Just so it's clear, there is NO fuse to pop. Unless you consider your ECU to be a fuse. As of now there doesn't seem to be any ill effects, but just realize that there is no overload protection for the hand/thumb warmmer curcuit, if something goes it'l be your ECU or a wire between the two, i.e. no go so I would deffinently keep them as low as possible while still getting some level of comfort.

As far as I know nobody has damaged the ECU because of running the '06 bars in an '07 sled.

Sure you could add an inline fuse, however if you simply do not run the grips higher than needed why bother.

Correct as of now, no one has claimed any damage due to using either the 06' update harness on an 06', or 06' bars on a newer model. I just think that everyone reads "Warm Hands" and wants to hook them up and peg them. I ride with the 06' stock setup (cold settup) so I understand the need for warm hands. Just want to make sure everyone is aware of what it is that they are doing. You could fuse it but the question is what size fuse do you go with? No one knows the rating of the ECU, no matter what you're above the stock level, hense the warmer hands. So it's a bit of a grey area there. Like I said if you decide to do this, I would just keep them as low as possible while maintaining a level of warmth or less than half.

BTW I have a set of 06' bars for sale, they may seem a little pricey. $6,200.00 but you get a free sled with the purchase!!! :-o

yep, i know what your saying, was already wondering on how to size the fuse.
well, going ahead with the change, keep the heat low as required.
already got the o6 bars but i'll take the free sled !
cheers

I haven't done this and don't think I will as my hands are warm by nature but I was thinking. Has anyone checked amp draw on this circuit? Most Fluke meters can measure up to 10 amps in series with the leads or if greater a clamp type meter can be used.
An example would be that if the ECU is drawing 8 amps for the grips at four bars and you normally run them on two or three then you can use an 8 amp fuse. Or go slightly over like if you run them at four bars max. and it draws say 5 amps at five bars then use a 5 amp fuse. If your meter cannot read the pulses put out by the ECU you can always measure the frequency of the pulses from the transistor in the ECU and do the math for the correct amp draw.
Just thinking out loud but I'm sure we can figure out a way to protect the ECU from this mod. that many have done. IMO. :rocks:
