2018 LTXLE. Main and fuel pump relays froze this weekend. Not especially cold, -10F. Luckily had read previous posts as to what to do. Yamaha has had relay issues going back to th first Apex. I went thru this with my 07, 11, and 13. Solid state relays fixed the issue after years of this problem. Now we have it again on Vipers and Sidewinders. I find it outrageous for a $17,000 machine to fail like this. If this was a car we could complain to the NHSTB. I’ve written to Yamaha, not that I expect much help. My dealer commented “ isn’t nice to have a snowmobile that doesn’t like cold weather”. It irks me to let Yamaha get away with this.
Any thoughts?

It's been an issue, and not it has not been fun for people. What most find is that when starting int he AM it is bast to let it come up to temp and go ride it. Don't warm it up and shut it off 10 min later. If it gets ridden and up to temp it is not a big problem. But you are right, it is made to driven in winter conditions, and it the cold, it should do so without problems.

If thats the only issues you come across on the Winder, consider yourself lucky!

Are there solid state relays to replace originals on the Winder?

If so, where to source?

I think this is the same issue with the ROV. People starting them for a few minutes and it pushes all the condensation into the valve then they shut it off for a half hour. Now it's frozen. Once the sled is up to temp there shouldn't be any moisture in the oil tank and the valve shouldn't freeze.

I had this issue on the weekend. Me and my buddy both. I phoned my Yamaha mechanic and he said the fix straight from Yamaha was to go to Polaris (yes thats right) and get part number 4016819 to replace the fuel pump relay. He said they had 20 on order to have in stock. I am assuming these are solid state.

Heard the poo ones do same thing.

Best to contact Travis or Rockmeister....he is working on sealing them and selling them.

I have never had this issue yet on apex all those yrs or winder. My sled lives in cold garage, and always is started and fully warmed then rode. Maybe Im just lucky?

I feel like heated garage cause moisture and may freeze more often.

Start your sled and ride it enough to get it warmed fully up. As stated above by Mike the starting and shutting off cold is when this happens. Had three do it 2 weeks ago. Now when we start sleds we do not shut them off and ride them at least a few miles. Problem has gone away. Two of the mornings without issue it was -30 Fahrenheit
Dumb problem to have on an expensive sled but this has seemed to cure ours

I had a Poo for 4 years and never had it happen. Already bought Poo's relay so I will give it a try. And yes we unloaded them out of trailer and shut them right off to get changed.

This is true as I often would park my winder in my heated shop to thaw out after an evening ride, then move it to cold building the next morning. Hence, my servo motor failed end of season, full of moisture.
Dan, how do you get rid of all the snow and ice build up if you keep it in cold storage all the time?

After 15 years of RX 1 , Apex's and now the SW , it happened to me for the first time yesterday.
Not very cold , I started it up to ride home after dinner , but home was only a 1/4 mile ride , never warmed up ,and then shut it off .
Came out in the morning and wouldn't start without a little throttle .
Kept it revving at 1800 rpms until it warmed up to riding temp , and then let off the throttle , and it was finally able to idle.
Turned it off , and then fired right up .
All good .
which relay would have caused this ?
You could hear the fuel pump circulating , when turned the key on , but wouldn't start without some throttle , and wouldn't idle if you let off the throttle .

Im on a lake, and most rides at end of day I come in across my lake, and typically I have ice on both sides at rear like these sleds like to have. I do pull it into my shop(cold) and do nothing. Many times the next ride that has fallen off. I will often knock it off if its there the next day, and many times just ride off in a hurry not thinking and it knocks off by itself. Guys who had the coolant hose problem were moreso guys without studs, I have heard my studs chew ice chunks when i take off many times.

Now the last ride it was milder for first time in awhile. At 20f the tunnel had NO ice on each side when i looked when i came in. Its all the rides across my lake below 10f or so that like to make the big hard ice.

I spray my tunnel(sides) with teflon snowblower chute spray. I do it a couple times per season. Not sure that this does alot but it very well might, as I can just knock the rear outer tunnel with fist and it all typically plops right off, its almost better when its colder and ice is hardest and it break right off. My track edges are taking a beating cutting the ice after lunches ect for sure though, lots of cords/edge showing which is sorta the norm tho.

As for relays, id be waiting to get them from ROCKmeister, as the POO ones are not having great reports either.

I had a guy give me a relay when I was in the hotel parking lot with my hood off. What he gave me was a BWD brand relay R6367.
Are these good relays?

I stopped at Pat's Yamaha and he said the Polaris relays are solid state relays part# 4016819. I put in the Polaris relay and started fine this morning.
