starter hell

I bought a aftermarket remote start off ebay. It had a alarm on it also. I could never get it to work!! I kept blowing fuses. You would think it's simple, just find your starter wire and splice into it. WRONG!!! I don't know I may have had a defectve unit or something. I mean I have a lot of electrical backround and I totally got my #*$&@ kicked by this thing. I mean it just insulted me!! I'm still not right from it. I just thought it would be cool to hit a button and have it start. and the little beep beep from the alarm on it. if you go for it and get it to work I'll hire you. good luck.

My brother-in-law installs these on cars and I know certain units will not work on certain cars. It's not as easy as splice and go. Theres more to it than that. Sorry I can't help but if anyone knows I'd like one myself.

Most new self install kits come with instructional DVD's. I tried an old style on my truck and gave up :o| . Worth every penny to have someone do it. Also, the installed ones at the shop seem to have alot better quality, I've had several friends not happy with do-it-yourselfs. Good luck on it.

You guys are kidding right? I didn't realize we had heaters on our sleds so they would be warm and toasty once we got to them......A warm car to get into is another story. For chicks that is I might add :tg:

It should be fairly easy and work fine, easy that is IF you are pretty good at more than basic automotive electrical for example.

I could see some advantge in getting a head start on warming up the sled, before blasting across a lake. Which is really hard on a cold engine

It is your guys money so do what you want but can someone explain the benefit to remote start on a Yamaha sled? There's nothing to starting these FI's anymore. No choke, just turn the key and they spring to life. You can't use "damaging a cold engine" as the reason seeing that the computer won't let you grab a handfull of thrhottle until it reachs a safe temp anyway. Which for the record is within a minute or two.
I'm not bashing; simply curious.......................

Depending on the remote starter you choose, additional relays may be needed. The problem is that there are several wires going into the ignition switch. You need to determine which wires connect and disconnect from which at each position of the switch, then get the remote starter to make and break the same connections. Another thing that you might want to do when wiring up a remote starter is to ACTIVATE the TORS (ie, have the tors deactivated when the key is inserted and turned to run). This way, nobody will be able to make off with the sled if they get to it before you do.

Hauck's put mine in on my GT. It works great. I start my sled from in the house or bar or whatever, put on my jacket, gloves, and helmet, and walk out side and the sled is warmed up ready to go without waiting. When its real cold out just sitting there for minutes suck. It only makes a real difference on the first start of the day. After that the sled is ussually already warm enough or only takes a few seconds to be ready. It was just a must have item along with the horn.

OK guys it does not need to be useful or needed just FUN.
For me I am to cheap :o|
