Here's a tip the first time you attempt to remove body srews use an IMPACT SCREWDRIVER.
Lightlly strike it and this will pevent stripping the screw or spinning the female receiver of the screw.

Screws

Not always, I have tried that and some of them just won't budge. I just bought 10 of them for $5 and you can bet I won't use Loctite when I replace the stripped ones.

Here's another thing to help:

Make sure that you use a screwdriver bit that FITS PERFECTLY. Using a too-small or too-big bit will almost ALWAYS make a mess.

I agree. I use a 1/4 ratchet with #3 Phillips bit. But each #3 bit is not the same. The way you can tell if it fits "perfectly" is that it will not 'rock' inside the screw head... in fact the bit should be able sit in a horizontal screw without falling out 8) .... keep looking till you find the right bit ...it's worth it.

Here is the best tip of all. This will work for all phillips, torx and allen screws. If you have 1 that the bit hole is striped, put some fine valve grind compond on the bit then insert in the screw and move it around, the bit will grip like mad, try it . It will work. Permatex brand is what I use have it in my tool box all the time. Once the screw is out, either replace it or just don't put it in as tight.

RXONE, where did you get the stainless allen headed screws? Do you have a part number or source? I saw allen headed fasteners on a sled. They were flat on the top but that same ugly green color as the stockers. I understand they came from a VMAX 1200 motorcycle. I was looking for the part number today but if I could get stainless instead well, deal me in! Powder Blue

Hardware store

I got mine at a local hardware store.(True Value)..They are 6mm 100 pitch metric stainless allen head.I just took one of the oem screws with me and matched it up.Oh and don't forget the stainless 6mm flat washers.
I'll post a pic as soon as I can take one..

Here's a tip:Wet the end of your screwdriver with water and then dip it in household cleanser that you borrowed from your wife. This will help prevent the blade from slipping. Works on the same principle as using grinding compound and most people have some around.

Tried an impact and it still stripped. Best cure that I came up for about six of them was screw extractor and bought some new ones.
