Remove decals or buy new cover?

I have a 09 blue nytro and I want to remove the decals. Can I just buy the hood if you will with out the decals or should I just remove them? I read that it is dull when you remove the decals..

I would first try peeling them off and trying it. I think most of the dulling comes from strong chemicals used while removing by some people.


Use a heat gun and be patient while peeling. If you need, also use WD-40, which wil be safe on the plastics yet cleans up easily enough.

I put aftermarket decals on right over top OEM decals.
My later on plan is to peel off the aftermarket stuff nice an easy and try to keep the OEM decals intact. So down the road someday gets a clean OEM sled, plus with luck I don't need to buy expensive Yamaha decals to bring it back to stock status.

Good luck with removing the decals. Even taking your time with a heat gun you'll be left with a sticky residue that is tough to remove. I tried several chemical to remove it but the only thing that even touched it was paint reducer. If you do get a dull finish I would think a little wet sanding and shooting it with clear coat would bring it back.

I do most all my own work but when it comes to paint I send it out and let the professional have at it.

what about 3m adhesive remover? That does not harm plastic..

I took off all the stickers from my blue hood before I had it painted black. If memory serves me right, I was able to get it clean enough before getting it painted that it would have been fine to put on the sled had I wanted a blue hood.

Heat helps when taking off the stickers, but be very careful not to over heat an area and cause damage. A hair dryer may be safer than a heat gun.

just put your hood on the shelf and pick up a used one to play with . usually can find them in the classifieds.

My sled turned out nice and it only took a hair dryer, 20 minutes, burnt fingers and a rub down with goo gone to get it done.

I had planned on putting a Sledwraps kit on, but I am happy with the plain look for now.

I took off all mine when it was new and there was no residue. Just used a hairdryer and pulled them all off whole. The sled had zero miles on it though.

Might get away with white but I believe the blue will show finger nail scratches big time. Brand new hoods are pretty cheap and come with no stickers. I would sell the one you have and buy new ~ IMHO

Once properly heated, there is no effort required scratching to pull them off; simply lift a corner and use a smooth, slow, consistent pull and they come off in one piece. The black portion does show scratches easily as well.

Since I was switching mine to black I just bought a naked hood..... It was surprisingly cheap and that way if I want to go back to stock or wreck a hood.. I have the original.
