Removing airbox on an apex

I have a blown fuse so I guess I have to remove the air box. I see I have to loosen the clamps on the 4 boots. It looks very difficult to access the Allen bolts with an allen wrench. I can't even get the allen wrench to completely insert into the bolt. Is it a 4mm?
Any trick or suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm to impatient to wait on getting the proper tools. I took a 6mm (I think??) Allen wrench and cut a 1 1/2" piece off. I put the small piece into a 6mm 1/4" drive socket. Used some black tape to keep the two pieces together. Add 1/4" drive extension and your good to go. Just make sure the boots go on good. I think there is a nub on the boot that fits into the clamp. It could be 4mm I just don't remember. Be careful.

It's for sure a 4 mm allen. I have a t- handle ball end wrench about 10" long. Works perfect and I don't have to worry about stuff falling in the belly pan lol.

Yes, the clamps are keyed to the rubber boots. They hold the clamps "clocked" at the correct angle.

Be aware of this when you are putting it back together

Does anyone leave the boot clamps off when reinstalling the airbox?
It seems to me that the boots are snug enough to prevent any significant leakage without the clamps. Would make for much quicker removal/installation process.

Would be silly to leave them off imo, they are there for a reason.

Not sure what they are like on an Apex, but I don't find any issues what so ever with my Vector, just unloosen then remove the bottom portion of the air box,,,,,easy peasy. ;)!

No reason to. When you have the right Allen tools it's a breeze anyway. I have ball end long Allen wrench sockets. They live on the sled with the rest of my tool kit. I ordered mine online but I bet you can get them at Napa or other national auto parts places

Before you remove anything but the right side panel, find out which fuse needs to be replaced.
There are 4-5 fuses accessible by just removing the side panel. Are you looking to get at the main fuse ? What isn,t working ?

Now who would ever drop something in the belly pan ???

I've dropped a few things in the belly of more than one sled over the years. And if you follow the book about changing a fuse they want the battery unhooked first, they NEVER mention the fuse box on the right side that is sooooooo simple to access. It got me the first time I worked on an Apex.

Ding, yeah, I wonder why no one had a picture of me doing a standing press with the rear bumper lol!,

Bringing back this older post with a question, (please don't laugh): It seems like I need to remove the entire headlight/top-portion of the sled to get at the airbox/carb rubber boot allen headed bolts ...I'm wrong, correct? I read that I need a long 4mm ball end allen wrench, so I assume you just reach in from the side?

I'll keep searching, but, any 'bucket of ice water in the face' guidance is appreciated.

You can wiggle the top of air box off without removing the headlight, but I do seem to break the little tabs in the back sometimes but I just super glue it back on but I really don’t see the need for the tabs because it’s clamped down in 4 places. Then just pull airbox off , just remove the bottom 2 hoses and the side wire and wiggle it out it shouldn’t be too tight
