I'm about ready to swap my maverk track for a Camo. Extreme on my APEX Mountain. I've done numerous Mountain Max's with tool's I have. But was told you need a special socket to remove the gear retaining nut. Any input on what you've used would be great.
The shaft is longer than a deep well socket, but it can be done with a wrench, but you won't be able to re-torque it to an exact spec with a wrench. I got my socket from Micro-Belmont, and there are other places that offer it including K&L tools (Yamaha)

I just use a crescent wrench works just fine.
socket
I also use a cresent wrench. If you get the socket the apex,rx1 and vector are all the same.

Do yourself a favor buy the two sockets from micro belmont. They saved me a lot of aggravation. I had to do the whole job alone. Well worth the money (imho). You can hold the shaft and tighten the nut without any assistance

One more option. I'm an Auto tech and they make a tool for removing the inner tie rod end on a rack and pinion steering gear. You can buy this tool pretty cheap OR you can even rent it from many auto parts stores. You will need to know what size you need but this is the Tool I use to change mine.
Might be perfect for the guy that only plans to use it once. Eric
