Over the weekend on my dads RX-1, we were replacing the slides, and greasing the rear skid, and noticed some lugs on the track missing, and more that are about ready to come off. So it seems track replacement is in our future. Just wondering how bad of a job will this be, and what kind of track do people reccomend, can we go with a 1.25 lug and still stud it or should we keep the stock 1" lug height?

Changing the track is no big deal at all. Can do it by myself in about 45 minutes. With the right tools.

Not sure what track to say, depends on the riding areas and styles.

+1 for what 1cs said. if you are a trail rider it is hard to beat the ripsaw in my opinion unless you go ice ripper.

I am maybe a +3/4 with what 1CS said. For a first timer with reverse it is a pretty good-sized job.

The exploded diagrams from the fiche, the TY tech pages to find those damn torx screws, and taking lots of pictures make it much easier than trying to remember where everything goes.

A good tip, is to zip tie all the parts of the chaincase parts together in order that you pull them off. Also, make sure you have the drive shaft back where it is suppose to be or you will get side wear on the track and the reverse won't work right. don't ask how I know. lol Take a picture or look at the speedo bearing, and make sure it looks the same after you install the shaft.

45 minutes seems a little optimistic to me as well. I would plan on 2 hours from getting the sled situated in the shop to rolling up the old track and putting the sled back in its home. On assembly of my engine the thing that fought me the hardest was the stupid freaking side panel took over 40 minutes to get one of the screws in underneath the sled!?!?! I was livid, my back was hurting so bad I could get down low enough to see it, so I'm investing in a lift this year!

This is how long it takes me. I have had my Attak apart so many times, it just isn't funny. lol

I do remember my first time though was a different time frame....more like a couple hours, so yeah, for a first timer, 45 minutes is most likely not to happen.

I put the new Camoplast Cobra x 136" on last year...couldn't be happier. The track is great on the trail, running across the lake and wonderful in the loose powder. No real noticeable signs of wear after 2000miles of MN riding.

Thanks to everyone on posting info on this subject. I would hope to have the track done in a day at least. I've never replaced one before, but my dad and I are pretty mechanical. I like the ideas of taking pictures, and zip-tying the parts together. Info like that is what makes this site fantastic. Thanks again, I'll let you know how we did when it comes time to do the install. ;)!

I can attest the 45 minute job, its definitely doable if there is nothing else to change/service (bearing, sprockets etc...)

Piece of cake to do, only messy gear oil!

Anything you need info on during the track change, feel free to ask :-)

I would like to add that while everything is apart all new bearings on the drive shaft and jack shaft would be a good idea!

I could do the job in a way shorter time now but when I changed my track it took a bit of time mostly because I took my time.

When I later changed my broken drive shaft it was a breeze because I knew how everything came apart.

Sasquatch - that's doing things the right way, I have to second you on that one :-)
