Ripsaw 1.25 vs predator 1 "

96 Roetin Hornets.....that's all I ever like to put in. I know alot of guys knock the Ripsaw but it's not that bad of a track considering you can pick them up here pretty cheap. The RIp"junk" hooked up wayyy better than the 1" Predator with the same studs in the same pattern. Where do you think that roost comes from....track spin!

In what condition the predator spin like crazy?
Ripsaw are good on hardpack....predator are suppose to be good on loose snow.

Do you think adding studs will stop the spun?

I tested my ripsaw with 4 different pattern and 3 stud quantity(96-144-192 ),96 trail stud never hooked good on a start and now even on top end with the ripsaw( still spinning ).

Rockerrtx,
I saw you posted tha tyou didn't want the Cobra? why is that?
I just put a Cobra on my XTX,and holy cow!! I'll never buy a different track again. I love it! it did great onthe hard packed stuff, the deep stuff (drifts here in Iowa..) and the loose, fluffy stuff was like it wasn't there at all. JMO, I'd recommend that one!!

I take it as the "roost" being Im moving snow...throwing snow....not just spinning on it...
I look at the ripsaw as a compromise track...does nothing great...everything just okay...mine was fully clipped and had 162 studs....just like my 1" pred has now....162 studs...on either track Id want to stud on the outside band...which I will be doing now on the pred...I wanted to recreate the feeling of my srx...lots of midrange and top when needed....and still hook well on the bottom..I know I havent lost anything over the rip...heck it wasnt even a full 1.25! the pred rotates (relative to our big sleds) easier...if you want ultimate hook...the cobra is seeming to be the way...or the 1.25 pred...but both at the cost of top end...

Nate007,i don't want the cobra because i don't want to loose top end,i ride 95% trail.

Sj the first year i bought my sled the track was not studed, this sled was a spinning mother,ad stud and that cure the spun.
I said in previous post that i try 4 different studs pattern,i never ad good traction with stud only in the center....have to stud the outside of the track.

My stud setup is 144 in 4-2-4-2 pattern ( 96 in center 48 outside ) with good result and compromise.Planing to do the same with a 1 inch track with 144 megabite.

I am looking at the predator because harder lug,my ripsaw with 3 year have a lot lug break. If the predator got no good traction i am gone a look for a Hacksaw track.

I have the 9833 predator 1.25" track with 144 studs and I would never want a different track. Not sure where the speed loss comments come from, I gained 4mph from the rip saw to the predator. Over 1800 miles and looks new with no pull outs, couldn't say the same with the rip saw.

Loose snow and my ZX2 it will shoot the skis straight at the moon, hook up in powder is AWESOME! The ripsaw would trench till it hit bottom then finally go.

hacksaw is just the ripsaw regurgitated! and is only 13/16ths..

get a pred 1" or 1.25" if I were you and want the hook...get the 1.25....stud in the ouside row..not just center...period..you will be happy

Rock, you won't lose top end with the cobra. Not any less than you have right now with the ripsaw... Your worse mistake would be going to a hacksaw. If you are spinning now, the cobra will help that alot in that area without sacrificing top end. They are junk and are only good for top end... You will lose huge everywhere else.. You are going to spin more reguardless with any 1"track...

yes andy ....but I know my track can do 8-10 thousand miles no problem..the cobra is unproven commodity desired mostly by crazy ontario boys trying to beat their buddies cat sleds!

Ok i am not really concern of the traction on hard pack with the predator because traction on hard pack rely mostly on stud.

Can wee state that a 1" predator is equally or better than a ripsaw on loose snow condition?......Or trail with soft snow on it?

I actually think the Hacksaw is a better track, pattern design.
A buddy has a Mach with a 1" Hack, and another with a Hack on an Attak. These things hook up great on the trail.
There is no doubt, the Hack has a more aggressive lug pattern than the Predator, and is lighter as well.
I know these sleds are different than my Apex, so it's not Apples to Apples, but my 1" Predator can't hook with the Mach in the snow...........
The 1.25" Predator seems interesting though......
If I were to replace my track, would go with the Hacksaw, clipped every hole.

Sorry guys but IMO the 1" Predator is NOT better than a RipSaw on the trail in any condition. We do alot of miles (anywhere between 3-5000) a year so I've had alot of time on mine in alot of different conditions. The 1.25" Predator is the way to go or stick with the RipSaw.

The Predator can throw alot of snow so you will only see a big difference in deep snow where the RipSaw fails.

Simmer did you try or know somebody who ride with the Hacksaw?

Swiss sledder post and article of snowtech in FAQ section and recommend this track for fast trail ridding.
....And the cobra for deeper snow.
