I installed the optional 12V power outlet on my '05 Rage--the one that is standard on most new Yamaha sleds. It is fused at 3 AMP and likely intended for an electric face mask. I have a heated vest that I use on my motorcycle that draws 5 AMPs that I'd like to use in the Winter occasionally. Does anyone have any experience with replacing the 3 AMP fuse with a 5 or 7.5 AMP to run an electric vest? I'd be turing the vest on and off during the day and not using it continously. Any thoughts?

It's possible that the size of the wire used to provide power to the outlet is only rated for 3 amps at 12 volts. The socket itself might also have limited current capabilities. It might be fine with a 5 or 7.5 amp fuse, but your best (and safest) solution would be to run your own fused circuit from the battery with appropriate wire and a Powerlet outlet. Perhaps you're already are familiar with them, but here's a link anyway:

Thanks, good point. I have the powerlet outlet on my bike and will likely run one on the sled for the jacket. This way I will have a jacket plug that I can also plug into with my battery tender and still use the Yamaha outlet for my electric face shield--best of both worlds. Thanks again.

I figured someone that uses heated clothing on a bike would know about powerlet stuff. Now I'm curious what kind of bike you ride. In late August, I moved up from a Honda 919 to an ST1300:

I got it ready for winter storage today and still have a box full of farkles to install, but it's time to start thinking about snowmobiling.

I did run a Gerbing harness directly from the battery to power the electric clothing and will use the stock Yamaha outlet for my face mask. BTW, I ride a 2009 BMW F650GS (800 cc twin).

I love it. a Beemer on a Yamaha site. You might figure from my K75 name why I make this statement. I am curious why the need of the vest. One thing I think Yamaha ought to point out is a Rage has a heated seat. I never realized how much heat until last year when I switch sleds with a buddy who has a Dragonl. Nice sled but I thought I sat on block of ice that was cramed up my b!!. I would warn you about one part of your wiring. I have owned and used on the bike their stuff. After a while at the connections of the thermosat wiring the wires tend to break and need to be reconnected. If you need the extra heat of a vest for warmtn check your cables. Winter is no time to get cold out in no man's land.

I think the seat gets heated by the muffler underneath. Mine gets HOT! I've had the snow melt off and have to get off after a long ride or I'm afraid of getting burns. I don't think I have any shields missing as I never took seat apart. plowking
