RTX SE suspension setup

No doubt. My 129 transfers like crazy in comparison to the LTX.

So I set the skis at the widest stance. I put 160 miles on yesterday and the inside skis lift still persists. When I got back I took 1-1/2 turns out of the center shock preload. I will try it next weekend. If I can't get it to settle down I will have to suck up the limiter straps.

I assume you have stock Tuners on your SW?

It sounds like you have too much pressure on the front skiis if they are flipping up. The Tuner makes this flat handling chassis very unpredictable. They either rail awesome, push too much in the corner or can flip a ski up. This chassis does not like having a ski high side. There is no middle ground. They make the ride unpredictable IMO.

I have 5.7 pilots.

Just put the transfer blocks on 3 and suck up limiters. A RTX with a 160lb spring is not for everyone. It is for a active rider. Meaning you hang off and get forward for corners along with throttle and brake control. You must plant the front end in a corner whatever it takes. Now if the lift is occurring but everyone else is falling behind and cant keep up. Well then you just found the limits of your sled.

It is crazy that there can be that much difference between an LTX and an RTX. My Dad's LTX SE handles on rails. It is a very predictable sled.

Don't get me wrong, so far I love the RTX. It is more fun to ride than the LTX. If I could settle the ski lift 50% I would be happy. I'm sure I will get it with settings. It just takes time and miles.

I have the same skis as you but a different sled. The tuners were downright dangerous at any suspension setting. Very bad push and they would also dart. No rhyme or reason why they would do what they did. Last year I got a great deal on 5.7 shapers. I put 8 inch center carbide and 4 on he outside. They made the sled much better but I still wasn’t totally satisfied. Still getting some push and inside ski lift. Over the summer I sucked up my limiter strap one hole and it really transformed the sled. So far this year the sled is handling great in varying conditions. On the trail it feels like it is glued to the trail. Around bumpy corners it is predictable with no ski lift. I can ride the sled around the corners while sitting down and not scooting up on the gas tank. Transfer seems no different also since a 137 doesn’t transfer very well anyway. Try sucking up your limiter 1 or 2 holes. They are there for a reason.

I believe Rockerdan has the same skis and sled as you. I believe at one time he increased the spring preload on the front suspension shock. It sounds like you have a different spring in there though. I have the opposite problem on my RTX. I am decreasing the spring pressure just a little at a time on the front shock spring on mine. I am getting close. Just a little bit makes a big difference. I played with the limiter strap on mine also. Just 1 hole difference makes a huge difference on weight transfer on the 129 skid.

I'm heading up north tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to make some adjustments and go for a ride after. I'm riding all day Friday too. I'll report back after my rides.

So, I spent the afternoon adjusting. I started by loosening the center shock spring amd front shock springs as loose as I could. I went for a ride and it cornered flat but pushed badly. I went back and tightened the front springs until I had good bite. At this point, I was still getting inside ski lift. I sucked up the limiter strap one hole. Now it cornered very flat, but it steered like an old pickup without power steering. So, I tightened the center shock spring a couple turns. I went for a 35 mile ride and I would say its 95% there. The sled handles on rails now.

I'm having some darting. My skis are not shimmed, so I may add some shims.

Thank you for all your advice.

I told you! I don’t have shims either but the carbides seem to be wearing perfectly. Slightly rear biased.
Jack the front of the sled up and see if the ski tip is up further than the back. If so It should be good!

Well, Yesterday I rode 160 miles in pretty hard conditions. The sled handled pretty flat with the occasional ski lift. By afternoon it warmed a bit and the sled handled perfectly.

There are a couple negatives to this setup.
1. Steering effort is high.
2. The fun factor is low. There is very little transfer, and a whole lot of spinning.

I may tighten up the center shock preload one more turn to see if that will lighten the steering a bit.

Settings:

Limiter straps on 3rd hole from loose.
Couple blocks on 2
Springs on medium
Center shock spring 3 turns from loose
Front shock springs have 1-3/4 threads showing.
Rebound 8 clicks from soft

I wish I could get it to stay planted with my previous settings. The sled was a hoot with the straps all the way loose and the couplers on 1.

The same thing happened to mine when I went to the third hole on the limiter straps. All transfer gone. I put it back to the two hole and am kind of working backwards from there to make it turn. The rear suspension front spring adjustment seems to be the most critical of all. Maybe a person can't have it all on these RTXs but I will keep fiddling.
