Looking at buying a Phazer for my wife and daughters to share. My local dealer has an '09 RTX for $7450 otd plus a cash rebate of $200 or an '08 holdover GT for $6925otd. The RTX seems like a better deal to me but I'm afraid it will be too stiff for them. Can the shocks be softened up enough for them to be comfortable? I am also leaning towards the RTX because I have a trail converted A/C 440 Snopro which isn't the best choice for all day rides. The wife and kids wouldn't be going on those rides anyway so I'd take the Phazer instead of the Cat. I'm 205lbs and ride very aggressively.

Advice? Are those good prices? I did a search and saw people paid far less than what I've been quoted, and these are the lowest prices I've found around here...

shock revalving can fix every thing. there is alot of adjusment in the rear shock but its non progressive. its pretty much like a pop off valve its the same stiffness threwout no mater how small or big the bumps are. u can get ur shocks revalved at many places and theres tons of info on it if u do a search. id say go with the rtx and get the shocks revalved

if you're not the only one riding it i'd get the rtx the fox floats up front are easily worth what the difference is in those two machines. i agree with terret, get the rear revalved but if you're not the only one riding it i'd try to find a suspention set up that can atleast kind of cater to every person riding it, if it were me it'd be a fox float in the rear as well, atleast that way if you don't like how the shock is you either add or let off some air, easy as cake.

A good revalved rear shock is actually real plush yet still doesnt bottom.Only adjustment needed for heavier riders is torsion spring cranked up with a good shock.

How horrible will the ride be for the lighter riders until I get the rear revalved? Is that the only one that needs to be done? I'm assuming I can just run a lower pressure in the front to soften that up. The trails locally can get pretty choppy. This will be their first real introduction to sledding and I want them to enjoy it while also being able to safely control the sled.

u have quite a bit of adjust ment in the clicker but u have to remeber that these shocks arent progressive in the rear. if click them down so that they are soft for the chops when they hit a G out it will blow right threw and they will bottom. this was the problem i had on my rtx. then on second look i didnt realise u said 09 rtx. i believe (not sure) that they are revalved to a progressive set up from the factory. i heard that carver worked with yamaha to solve the shock valving in rtx. so u might be ok. u might just have to try it and see.

I would Definatly say that you will be fine getting the RTX..the shocks will not be "too" stiff. If the trails are bumpy or if there are any big bumps I would much rather have my wife on a RTX..my GT has wayyy too soft susension even maxed out.
