Anyone else, who has had problem with cracks around the ramp shoes ?
My Secondary Sheave has lost two of the ramp shoes and go cracks around all 3 seats... =(

I cant find any service advice about this one , but i seems like there has been some problem with the secondary shaft on the 2005 models. Does anyone know what that advice say ?

I left the sheave at my lokal yamaha retailer and, they'll with check if its possible to get it fixed on some "extended" warranty.

I had that happen to my '05 as well. Got the sheave with the damaged ramps seats under warranty last year. The new sheave have much larger ramps seats, it may hold up.

I hope they take care of you, the cracks in your secondary must have been there last year when your sled was still under warranty.

Sheave

Broke one off, found it while tuning for this winter. Could have been broke for 10 miles or 1000. Bought a used sheave to go back on.

I have seen quite a few of em break on the 4 strokes.I have never ever seen it happen on a 2 stroke. I think part of the reason is the stiff secondary spring/preload they run.

Turk - I agree, it's the backshift that is killing them, especially when letting off throttle and then wacking the trottle wot before the secondary have closed the backshift. Helix and buttons slams into each other with a clangggggg sound, no wonder they break.

Hmm, My Yamaha dealer say : "We havent noticed any problew with the Secondary Sheaves before.., you are out of warranty so its gonna be around 585$ :ORC "

Seems like I'll order the parts from US then.
It clear that the cracks has been there for a long time.

To me its clear its a weakness in the material that has caused this problem. Or a bad design ;-)

The sled is still stock, so no modifications.
Anyone with experience from other Secondary Sheaves like, TEAM or so ?

Still I might get a new Secondary from another dealer for a reduced price.
I'll let you know. This shouldnt happen to a sled that has a price of around 21 000 US$ after only 2000 miles...

Try calling Yamaha Customer Support. Did something change between 03, 04 and 05 secondary's

You must be from Canada because this sounds like typical Yam Can warranty. We have not heard of problems so yours cant be faulty.

No, I live in Sweden, Europe :-( this is typical for Sweden. Always twice the price in US + TAX + extras. I have talked with another dealer today and they checked with "Yamaha norden" they handle all Yamaha snowmobile business in Sweden, Norway, Finland. "There in now problem with the seconday Sheaves, we think you have a turbo mounted.. bla bla bla" Crap, I say. And "you can kill a snowmbile within 316 miles..." The thing is that Im not the first owner on this one but Ill talked with the dealer about this one and they "yup we know him, it has all updates and is in excellent condition" One thing is for sure, I wount by a new one from any of those dealers. So today I put my order at ronnies. If only it had been 5 month younger the new swedish law with 3 years warrent would have applied to this case. I didnt think this about Yamaha. I dont mind to pay a part of the price but full price after this short milage. Ill put up some pictures on this later, and you will see what Im talking about.

I don't normally post here (in this section) but a freind of mine had this happen to his 05 last winter. We were in maine when it happened and he notice an unusual clicking noise. I can't remember, but i think two of them were completely broken off. We were able to limp it back to a dealer were it was replaced, but our local dealer warranteed the whole thing.

Same happened on my 2005 last year, got it covered under warranty, no problems at all and no questions asked.

FYI - Yamaha Scandinavia's HQ lies in Sweden and is the Yamaha head office for the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish markets. Finland is a market on their own, they are not under Yamaha Scandinavia.

berrob - please fill in location info in your profile, site rules says it's mandatory.

Yes my fault :-) Was updating this while working and it all got bad ;-P I know and they have been talking with the HQ in Stockholm about this. No way they say, there is no product fault with the Secondary Sheave. I hope I will be able to update this thread with pics tomorrow night. This is so typical for Sweden , some dealers doesnt know how important its with service. It doesnt matter how bad a product is if the service is great.... Anyway I have order the part and som additional parts boggie wheels and so from US. rxrider what dealer did you talk with, Swedish or one in Norway ?
