I was just starting to settle in to the comfort zone having built a real good motor, right in the 300 HP range, tuned spot on and beat some real fast, newer and pushing more boost sleds the last few weekends of Drags, even though its a hill climber mostly.
Got lucky in the fact that I was on a groomed trail and not down in some hell hole when it let go. I took off down the trail and at about 60... BANG and the clutch comes right out the side, a few high bounces and off down the trail. I am left dead in the water and in a bit of dissapointed shock.
Looks like it lost about 1/4 of the clutch while at max rev as I found that part by the secondary all the rest ejected. so it looks like it went out of ballence at high rev and ripped the gear reduction and clutch right off the case. :o| I can see the first rod and most bolt holes in the case for the gear eduction cover ripped in half. Very Bummed as you might expect/
I have not tore into it yet but it has about 500 miles on this build. Carrillo rods JEs and a port and polish head and pushing 17 lbs boost. it was a runner!
Question? Options...
Find a used motor and move all my parts over? Not sure what I am getting there.
Go with a Hurricane High proformance block and build with my parts?
Part it out and bail?
High end clutch on the new build if I do? had a stock one (yes this caused the problem as far as I can see) are they much better.
Other options?
This is not a type of failure I was expecting.
Any comments are welcome.
Do the high proformance blocks have any reinforcement in the gear reduction side to help prevent this.
