Hey Guys, I'm new around here.
I was wondering if anyone has ridden a firecat and could compare it to the ride of a RX-1? Is the ride of the 2005 going to be better than my '03 F7 Standard? I know that not many people have ridden the new skid, but from what I have read, it is going to be great. I'm pretty sure the new one will ride better, due to the new suspension, and the better seat, the higher handlebars too I think etc.. I just want to make sure! Not to mention the added reliability of Yamaha. Thinking about plopping down the cash on Monday, just looking for some reassurance (sp).
Are any 05's in already?
Thanks,
Matt

f7
I own an f7 and can tell you that a properly set up one can be a blast to ride. any one who says they don't handle well hasen't spent the time to set it up for their weight and style. The harder you ride them the better they go. That being said. I ordered an 05 RX-1, I don't expecct the RX to be able to be pound the big bumps and twisties for long periods of time like the f7 but I don't ride like that any more. I do expect it to be more comfortable at extended high speed cruising as I belive the weight will actually benifit in this area. I rode a zrt800 for 10,000 miles and the weight made it great for the big trails. I also expect the build quality to be MUCH better on the yammi and was a big reason for my switch of brands after 20years and 10 cats. Bottom line is they are two very different sleds and you must put your ego aside and ask yourself what kind of riding do you REALLY do? I liken the f7 to a motorcross bike and the RX to a power cruiser
P.S. for sale 03 f7 patriot $4000 many extras

Ill give Yamaha credit, they have been adressing our complaints on the model in its first 3 years of production. Last year it was Longer sway bar links, better seat...etc. This year even better seat and the suspension weve been all waiting for. I also own a Firecat and an RX1 and can tell you the Cat is fun but quality wise, its far from a Yamaha. The new Monoshock skid will be very nice, I have not personally rode an 05 but have lots of contacts who have and they all said they were more than suprised how nice it was.

It is so refreshing to see someones question addressed and no bashing. WOW.
( spending to much times on other sites)
I could not agree more - two totally different sleds, built for different purposes, F7 -bumps, jumps ,quick, speed,...Rx -trail cruiser also with speed and known quality fit and finnish and hopefully a new class leading ride.

""Welcome to this site"" One of my brothers has a 04 F-7. I like it for speed and it's ride. The handling is good. Ther is sometimes it can feel a little tipsy but I can control it. He has had suspension problems with it, but over all he like's it and so do I. But reliability may not be the best. After a lot of careful thought, I orderd a 05 RX-1. With the new rear skid and about 30 lbs lighter I think it will be more to my liking...
The RX-1 Can be ridden in all conditions. The F7 will be outperform the RX-1 in some of those situations. Now the 05 Rx-1 with the weight reduction might be better then it used to be but it will never run in the ditches with an F7.
That said you can have just as much fun on the RX-1 as you can on a f7 you just won't be able to throw it around as easy.
The over all power of the RX-1 will impress you. The quality of the RX-1 is second to non!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old Farts bought Scoobys F7 last year to use as a spare sled. It has been set up real well. It is fun to drive especially for the ladies.
The quality isn't in the same league with the Yamahas.

I will find out first hand...
I have two buddies who ordered 05' F7s, one is a snowpro the other is a standard..
I will do all i can to hold my own on the lake and the trial im sure..
Yamahas feel more stable in the straits,, the lighter sleds feel more nimble in the corners..
I know several guys who own F7s but never got the chance to ride one myself.. They all say there fast, and they all say they have handling problems..

Welcome aboard,
Just wanted to give you my imput on the Fire Cat 700. I am comming off of on 03 f7. I was really impressed with the sled and everything from handling to lake speed, it was a real fast and nimble machine. I could beat almost every 700 and 800 sled out there. The only problem with it is the reliability issues it had. So this year I hope to put those issues behind and drive a 4 stroke RX-1 2005 blue Yammi. Good luck with yours.

Last year i had an 04 f7 standard and an 04 warrior. Two completely different sleds. The trails i ride get pretty beat up and i would prefer the f7 when the bumps got bigger. The Firecat is nimble and a blast to ride hard on the tight twisties and much lighter. The Warrior was a bit to heavy when things got ugly. The Warrior , when the trails are smooth is one hell of a trail sled. i loved that motor. the 4 stroke is sweet. The Warrior is much more stable and gives you confidence out on the lake and in the straights. Don't get me wrong, the Warrior can be ridden hard and it will take it!! just feels heavier when the trails are beat up and would tire me out quicker..........This year my wife and i have a Vector Er and a f6 sno pro (orange) coming!! I like having both options. the Yamaha reliability is far better than anything out there. It's hard to say which i like better because i love both...I'll let everone know more when the snow flys

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm stilling thinking about it. It's only mid-july...
but that leaves a while to think about it. Been looking around, the the dyno report on the vector looks pretty impressive, I may check that one out. The RX-1's price tag is a little deep for my pockets. Thanks for the posts again!

I would think that the vector would be a closer match (handling and weight wise) to the Firecat.
I also think handaling of the VECTOR will be a little better then the 05 RX-1. But weight wise I dont think ther is a big difference. The new RX-1 has a lighter rear skid and some lighter parts the VECTOR dont have, that makes up for some of the VECTORS lighter motor. The RX-1 would give you about 20 more HP. (rollinonmy 1ton , come out to NELSONS snow show aug 27-28 ) You might be surprised by how close the price of the RX-1 will be to a F-7. I think the VECTOR will be close to the F-6 price....( Mighty ) are you going to NELSONS snow show ?...
