Hello Everyone,
I haven't been on this site for years, but the need for advice brings me back! I hope I'm posting my question in the proper place. I read for over an hour before posting, but still have questions. I hope you guys can help.
I have a 03 RX-1 with a 136 Hartman extension/Expert X. I've had an overheating issue since I lengthened it. I know this is not unusual. I’ve tried coolant additives ECT…but it’s time to fix it right. I plan on a three part approach.
1. A rear cooler
2. Ski scratchers
3. Temperature gauge
What is my best bet for a rear exchanger? Are they difficult to install?
What ski scratchers are recommended?
What temperature gauge should I get?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love the sled and finally have it riding nice, now I just need that darn temp light to stay off!!

gauge is your choice. i like the look of ulmers.
do not run ski scratchers but i like the set-up crew cheif has on his nitro skis.
i would recomend the rxmountain/warior rear cooler. i paid to have mine installed but others have installed it without too many difficulties.

What type and how long is your rear FLAP, make sure its long enough and fairly stiff, you can't beleive on how much snow it keeps in tunnel and track area to cool things down, I would defenitly invest in a rear cooler...check for clearance make sure to protect if your running studs, I don't run studs (no protection), run 50/50 coolant/antifreeze mixture and you shouldn't see any overheating issues.

You guy's are good. I forgot I played with the sno-flap too. I don't have one on it right now, got ripped off (again) last ride. I tried mounting it high so it wouldn't get caught, but I had the overheating issue. I lowered it and backed over it the first ride. I'll try someplace in the middle next. I had to lower it because no one woud ride behind me! PLEASE, keep the info coming. I want to be ready before the snow!!

If you run WITHOUT a flap you will OVERHEAT slides and motor...
The cooler is a YAM OEM, I installed when sled was brand new, '09 & '10 come with as standard equipement.

You might want to try Port Yamaha or Pioneer Performance, the 1 you want is "P-E103" $349.95...ouch! I paid $149.00 in fall of '07 for mine...click on link .

Forget the rear rad. Just install a Apex rad. Works even when the snow is minimal.

This works great!
P.S. I had the rear rad on my Warrior and took it of when I installed the rad. Rear exchanger stopped my ZX2 from using all its travel. May not be what you had in mind but its another option.

Another awesome idea! It seems to have several advantages, the price being the first one. Second, no need to worry about putting a stud into the heat exchanger. Third, this set up should work riding in town trails at slow speed with no snow correct? I'm really torn what fix to use now. The instalation sounds a bit tricky, but not to bad. THANKS!
