I get a kick out of the posts about "Yamaha screw ups" on the front suspension calibrations. This is not about quality but marketing and perception. :!:
OK picture this, meeting room full of Yamaha 'decision makers' lists of pro's and cons on the walls of a new 4 stroke sled. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CON? WIEGHT. So now you say How shall we set the front end, options tight, rail handling front end planted ( enthusiasts ans agressive riders will love it!) BUT down side of front end planted is feels "HEAVY" on first impression . GOOD OR BAD?
They obviously choose the loose light feel to combat the Heavy perception. This is not a Flaw, it is a choice so all articles and first time riders leave and say does not feel heavy at all.
So what do enthusiasts and agressive riders do, they decrease body roll with sway bars, links springs etc. THis has nothing to do with quality of sled but every thing to do with perception and marketing.
My 2 cents.

and if I might add..... the best overall setup for the non-tinkering riders (which would be the vast majority) out there.
Well put.

Yes and they also designed their 03 clutching to go along with the garbage 03 track, no hookup. Does that make it right, I believe the RX1 marketing was for the enthusiast sure as hell a newbie does not need "the fastest thing on snow". A person who spends the money for an RX1 expects the advertised results, if it was not a problem why have they changed it the next year every year.

And every other manufacturer ... from sleds to computers doesn't upgrade their products from year to year..... (ok, so Harley doesn't  )???
You seem to have a different definition of the word problem and upgrade than most of us here.

I do agree with the garbage track. But as for the clutching it is set best for all around performance not for anyone specifically. I really do agree that the track is garbage. I'm installing a camoplast 9830 and problem solved. As for the front end I'm a little disapointed that Yamaha didn't offer some assistance like they did with the Viper suspension upgrade.

You should not sell your "ULTRA PRIMO Performance " sled with a wishy washy front suspension and design the clutching for a "Non-Studded" application especially on a track that the rest of the industry scrapped two years earlier.

Greenmachine, with all of your bitches about the RX-1 do you give thanks to the All Mighty that you don't have an F-7

Never even considered the F7 as too much on the edge. If you get a good one greatest sled out there but taking too much of a chance that you will end up with the problem sled.Don't understand as the good ones stay good. I think a lot has to do with dealer prep especially the early recalls besides that a 500 is quick enough for trails and that is what the sled was designed for.
I'm with Yamaha until somebody gives me a better base to work with but just think that the Yamaha faithful let Yamaha get away with murder.
