I have a 05 f-7 sno pro with 1800 miles on it, was offered a trade for 04 RX-1 has a new track and studs.... What else to look for? RX has 3300 miles... What to look for?? Bushings up front? Am I looking for "wiggle" in the front end? How much is bad? I've read exhaust donuts? How do you check for that? I had a warrior previously but only for a season and it was bought new.... Just seeing what's needed now that these sleds are getting to b 10 years old... Any other issues I should b looking for or at??? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!! Can't wait to get back on a team blue sled!!!

One of the first things I do when looking at a sled is look over the entire skid, if they don't do maintenance there they most likely don't do anything but put gas in and run it. Exhaust donuts for sure, mine are completly gona at 4500 miles on an 03 the sled doesn't even sound the same anymore. If you plug the exhaust pipes in the back the sled should try to or stall completely out. My 03 doesn't miss a beat when I do this so I am putting copper donuts in for this season. I'd look over the clutches, I have the nylon washers coming apart next to the flyweights on mine, I will be replacing those also. Busings in the front should definitly be checked, I'm not sure how much movement is too much, I take mine off to check them. I know that's not much help since I'm sure he doesn't want you taking his sled apart before you buy it. I've only had 2 bearings in the skid need replaced at about 3700 miles and I also had to replace some busings in the skid that were completely worn out on one side. Other than the getting the sled to handle how I want and doing the Apex seat and risers I have absolutly loved mine. Also, a heads up the 03 and 04's had different rings in them and like to burn a little oil. Mine burns about a half a quart in 1,000 miles. I run ring free in every tank and just check the oil every couple hundred miles and forget about it. ine has earned the reputation in our group as being the tow sled when all the Polarises and occasional Cat breaks down. Hopefully the Apex I picked up will live up to the same standard.

Also I'd keep an eye on your exhaust shields under the tunnel, mine have cracked and make a ton of noise at idle, I ended up cutting the two forward ones off last year and the back one I cut half of it off. The rest of it is coming off this year, it's back to making noise. I heard of someone having one come out and ride the track around and ripping open the front heat exchanger.

I traded my 2003 Viper ER for my RX three years ago with no regrets. The RX only had 2k miles but he overstudded the track and it was tearing out and my Viper had 4k miles on it. I knew it was going to need a new track ASAP but new the motor would last forever. So he wanted to go back 2 stroke and after riding my sons RX with 10k on it I was hooked on 4 stroke and have never looked back.

Re: RX-1 thinking off trading my f-7 for it... What to look
I have two one with 7000km and a turbo the other at 10,000 km and bone stock....never and I mean never had an issue other than basic maintenance
Which is less than 300 per year.... Both sleds.

Rxw1000 and ghost rider, could you please put in your location in profile as per site rules.
Rxw1000, at that mileage, pretty much all that sled should need is some bearings in the skid from my experience. Might be a site member closer to give you a hand if needed.

Two totally different sleds- the most important thing I think is how you want to ride.
The RX1 motor hands down great. But F7 with only 1800 miles has alot left and alot to offer as well.

My turbo sled 03 RX-1 has 15500 kms run it at 22 lbs of boost, still gong strong.
Like the guys have already mentioned.
With the low mileage it has; It's the usual service Points to look after, the sled is not worn much:
- bushings and bearings in the skid
- oil Level in chaincase, Chain tension
- oil in the engine, change every year
- donuts when you they go bad, you will hear it immediately as a Sharp sound coming from the tunnel.
It's a strong chassis and the engine is going to live for a long time.
Take Your time setting up the suspension for you likings.
For long distance trail riding it's a great sled.
Thanks
