Last weekend I took my wife's 05 RX-1[192studs] and raced my friends Apex[96 studs]. On the ice/hardpack I got the hole shot and stayed ahead. At the other end of the lake was 8-10" of snow starting to crust over and we were even for quite a distance but the RX-1 slowly pulled in front then we ran out of lake. Both sleds are stock and the RX-1 has about 950 miles it.
WOW Sweet! or should i say damn??

RX-1 vs Apex
I have read many topics about the above sleds. Some people say that their is 4-5 sled lengths difference between the 2005 and the 2006 Apex and about 9 sleds difference between the Apex and a 2004 RX-1. I currently have a 2004 RX-1 with a clutch kit. It could be the above differences, but that is why we race. Race them and find out and depending on conditions and sled setups you never know. The best thing about all the above sleds is that they are very fast snowmobiles that are turn the key and ride..

With this set up I was able to pull away from a stock 05 RX-1 and run about dead even with an 06 Mach Z without any loss in fuel economy.
This one worked very well for me, I got the info from blackjohn and I applied it on my 04 Warrior 8)
Primary Clutch: OSO spring, 14.5 mm rollers
Secondary Clutch: Silver Spring @70 degrees, shimmed with 5/16 lock washers.
Engine: 4 TPI valves with 160 main jets, Green Holtzman Springs, NGK CR10EK Spark Plugs
Track: SLP anti-wear pads.
And the parts needed only cost about $200.

just try it. at 1st i was just tell you guys to run the o/s/o primary spring and the three washers. that worked realy well but then i found out that only the 02 rx 1,s came with 15mm rollers all the reat were 16-16.5 so i swithed to 14.5s that worked great. other than runing dolton,s arms, springs, and helx,s this is the secound best set up that i have used. abd the cost is resoable and its all oem parts from your dealer. many users have reported back that they were shocked. at the level of improvement. guys like bob have had he fellows from other camps remane spech less. and hell just try the spring and washers 1st for about 20.00 usd what the hell give it a try it mite make you happy.

Also, I have kept my set up stock all of these years, What is a TPI valve?

Red place the washers under the helix in the secondary. The TPI valve is a fully adjustable air intake valve that is placed in holes you cut in your stock air box. I'm pretty sure this is how it is.

When you say place the washers under the helix in the secondary, you mean place the washers on the three helix mounting posts then put the helix back on and tighten the nuts??? Also were you using stock weights?
