RX-vector-apex Skid plate inserts need #

Just came across this. I never thought that using WellNuts would work. That is great to hear about the successes as the steel ones do have a tendency to pull out, even when installed with a proper tool. I will have to start a search for larger WellNuts.

Thanks!

well nuts work great lots of issues with the rivnuts and need a tool to install. i only put 2 well nuts in when I installed mine as i didnt hace a stop for my drill bit and diddnt want to knick the collant hose on the other side and even packed full of snow and ice the two well nuts on the rear held all year no issues I went out and got a drill bit stop and thought i would do the other two during the season as i thought they would give me trouble but they never did so i put it off till this year and still need to do.
I know this is a old post, however someone might find useful. Placing a shallow or deep socket over your drill bit, depending on depth needed to drill, works as a free drill stop.

I've used the McMaster rivnuts that are a little bit longer then OEM supplied as they would not install right.. on 3 Attaks with no issues..probably 30,000 miles combined.. many removals due to oil changes. No rubber to rot. Proper rivnut and proper install equals proper results.. I will do it again on our new left over 2013 2016 Vectors this summer.

them coming out is why i bought the install tool from my local matco dealer when he had it on sale. since using it, i have not had a pull out on any that i have installed with it.

Tried to install 2 new skid plates on my 2018 Vector & neither one of those would work due to the fact that the holes in the skid plate were not even close to the rivets that had to be removed. I have put 3 other skid plates on my other vectors without a problem.

I always found the holes were off anyway and enlarged them.. then used fender washers to secure them.
I haven't checked but it may be Yamaha changed the under belly. I know on the rear tunnel they made it longer on the xtx vector then the ltx.. which is nice cause I carry a winch there.

Even if I made bigger holes in the skid plate it would not matter because the skid plates are not long enough under the belly pan to reach all 4 holes. I would like to install one, but like I said before I have tried 2 of them already.

Now you have me curious if my old Vector ones will fit the newer Vectors we just picked up. I'm assuming you have the proper skid plates .. Front end's seem the same to me..

Front end of skid plate bolts right up, no problem there. The problem is that the rest of the skid plate isn't long enough under the belly pan section. On a side note I installed a skid plate on my wife's 2011
& 2015 Vectors with no problem. What I am going to do in a few weeks is switch the skid plate off the 2015 Vector & try to install it on my 2018 Vector. I keep my machines up north so they are not available
at the present time.
