rx1 bender turbo problems

i have a 03 rx1 that i put a bender rear mount stage 1 on and i am on to the tuning stages and this thing runs like a turd it stumbles and almost n e throttles movement. my plug tips r white as paper ...i went back to stock jetting and springs with i think a size bigger pilots or what ever full power ferformance told me to run but frm what i can see its obviously not getting eneough fuel but dont know where to start....the only thing i an think of is on the fuel pressure regulator i have a fuel supply and a fuel return which i know r on right and the other 2 r the slide vents and the one that goes to the air box could these be switched around? and also i know the fuel pump is turning on bc i can hear the fuel dump back into the tank when its on
 

Sounds almost like you have a boost leak in the carb's, likely the float bowl breathers that tie into the pitot tube not seeing adaquate boost signal.

#1 thing to do is CHECK FOR LEAKS IN THE SYSTEM.
 
Sorry for the question, when you say you made a valve stem did you make a plug for the turbo inlet with a valve stem in it?
How much pressure did you put in and what did you use to check for leaks?
 
i made a thing to fit on the intake of the turbo that clamps on with a rubber hose pumped it up to 15 pounds and listened and sprayed water where i thought there would be leaks and lookd for bubbles
 
Yup, that is the right way to do it.

Where is the hose from the pitot tube plumbed to on the carbs? To the plastic float bowl T's in the front of the carbs?
Are the T's leaking at the carb bodies? Very common problem...

The next would be to pull the intercooler so you can see the slides. Pressurize the line that feeds the slide diaphrams via the nipples on the backside of the carbs (line from under the intercooler) with about 2 psi and make sure the slides all rise evenly and open completely.

Might also suggest a fuel pressure gauge, to monitor what the fuel pressure is when on the throttle. This will show if it's your regulator or not.
 
Just verify those T's in the front for the line to the pitot tube aren't leaking. You need to also plug the pitot jet when pressurizing...

You should be able to blow in the line for the diaphram vents, remove it off the intercooler is the easiest.
 
Check your charge tube in the tunnel coming from the turbo up to the chaincase. Almost all of the mounts on mine were cracked and leaking. Not sure why that happened, but that sure made a difference.

I pressurized the system and blew smoke over the connections (gave me an excuse to light a cigar-LOL). This made it really easy to find any leaks if the smoke blew around.
 
krauss2005: If its a stock Bender pressure regulator just take it apart and make sure all is OK inside. If I remember correctly there are only 3 screws holding it together. Just a spring and diaphram inside. Check for dirt etc. The spring in these will get weak. I've had to turn my adjuster in about a 1/2 turn each of the last two years to keep the fuel pressure at 5-5.5 psi. at idle.

What are you running for main jets, fuel screw settings and pilot jets, needle settings?
If you were told to go to 15 pilots and fuel screws at 2-2.25 turns, mine would never run like that. Are pilot jets clean?

Even if you don't run a fuel pressue gauge all the time, find one you can put in just to check with. I run one all the time and just T it into one of the fuel lines going to a pair of carbs.

Also, how are you testing this; on grass, or a stand? A bender rear mount will not make boost on a stand. At least mine won't. Which leads you back to all fuel and carb problems.
 
i have been testing this in a field .....i dont know what needle setting is have but its what ever stock was and i think the fuel screws r 2.5 out from bottom. and yes the pilot jets and mains are clean made sure they were clean when i put stock ones back in
 
Just curious if you had the cam's out or anything like that? A compression test will tell if the timing is out.
 
If your plugs are white you are lean and its lean popping, which could be from any number of issues. You can guess whats its doing all day long but till you put a wideband on it you'll never really know. That's the first thing I would do. What is your static fuel pressure, it should be about 5 lbs coming out of the fuel pressure reg going to the carbs at idle.

Does it lean pop when it stumbles or does it just loose power and borbles from going too fat?
What does your AFR system tell you?
 
well i checked it out today and the hose going to the pilot tube when i hardly blew in it fuel squirted out of the holes coming out of the carbs...when i took the hose off going to the slide vents i had to blow my brains out to get them to rise and the 2 sides on the brake side opened first the the 2 on the clutch side after.. andi had to continue to blow into the hose to keep them up.....i havent gotten a fuel pressure guage but thats next
