Just wondering what you guys think about this. . .
Everyone says that the RX1-mountain is a beast, somewhat heavy and in need of much skill to ride. I am 5'4" and 132lbs. We live in western WA and will be using the sled in deep powder and bowls. My husband believes that this sled will be perfect for me because of my size and its power. I will be tough to catch he thinks.
Something that we (I??) noticed during our "shopping": the Doo, the Poo, and the Cats all have wider seats-- tough for a small woman to grip comfortably with feet flat on the running boards. The RX1 was a good fit and real comfortable, but we are unsure about me handling it.
So, despite its reputation as a heavy sled, would a small person like me make up for it (or would it be too much sled for me to handle)?
TIA

My wife is 5 foot even and didn't care to sit on a wide seat either. I'd suggest you find a brand new 2000 or 2002 Phazer Mountain lite (136 x 1 1/2" track) left over at a dealer. I know there are several dealers who would almost give you one to get them out the door.
I bought my wife a short track 99 Phazer 500. She loves the sled. I rode it most of one winter for reasons I'm too embarrased to talk about and I still think it was one of my funnest winters.
I live in Eastern Washington and I'd be happy to try to find you one over here or in Canada if you'd like. Let me know. PB
PS: I ride a RX-1 Mountain and it kicks my butt off the trail. I'm 165 lbs and 5' 10". The guys that are 6' 2" and 220 lbs. can throw it around MUCH easier.

TC,
I love my RX, but honestly I think you are going to struggle with the weight. The sled has many, many positives but the weight is not one of them.
I am 6'2" and somewhere near 190. I struggle somedays and I have knocked considerable weight off of the sled.
Did you feel the REV seat was to fat too? Say what you want about the REV, but it is 100 lbs lighter than an RX and leans with little effort.
My advise would be that if you are getting off trail and riding the mountains like they were meant to be ridden seek out a lighter sled.

I agree with spray. This machine can be a handful. I'm 5'11" and 215lbs, I love driving it but it takes alot of body english to keep this baby upright at times. I suspect you will be disappointed if you buy this machine.

I'll third that. Maybe in a few years, when the factory get's them lightened.
I hate to be a broken record, but I fourth it! There is a noticable weight difference. However I will say in deep powder it is easier for me to handle than anything I've ever ridden. Are the rev seats wider than the 02' and 03' skidoos? I have an 02' summit and the seat is almost 2" narrower than my RX-1, however it is over two inches HIGHER from the rails and it give the feeling of being wider. I thought is was wider until I got out the tape and measured them.

My kid is 70 Kg and 170 cm high
He is handling my RX1 M better than me, it's all about skill and practice

It has a lot to do with where/how you ride it. I ride a short-track RX1, but go into deep powder whenever available. If you work the throttle right, it'll carve easier than a phazer due to the power being able to lift the front end up out of the snow.
Being that you weigh LESS than those lardasses above, you will have a much easier time getting the sled to stand up in the powder. When the skis are up, you need only imagine yourself carving and it happens.
When I'm riding in powder, I tend to keep the throttle at about 50%. That keeps the skis on the snow, and gives throttle space to mess with. When I want to turn, I pin the throttle and nudge the machine over onto its side. To come out of a turn, return to 50%, the skis go down and the machine levels off.

Anybody can handle these machines going through powder at half throttle! The difference is the slow going and when you push yourself past the limit (as I'm sure we all do at times!). That is when this machine shows it weight. This machine is equal to the Summit and Mountain Max machines I have driven but I would suggest the Mountain Max is easier to handle for a smaller person. Yes, with time and experience I have no doubt that she could handle this machine but I don't think it would be as enjoyable. The biggest difference I've found with this machine is it's trail manors when trying to drive fast in the corners, that is when the extra size (and weight) come in handy........

I agree with all those who say that weight will be an issue. Once I spent the money and effort to shed the weight my RX1 is a great mountain sled, but not a good ladies sled. It's kind of noisy, wild, and high strung. If you want the benefits of a fourstroke with good power and better manners try an Arctic Cat t660 Trail. I have a 2002 660 Trail that my wife loves, and she hates snowmobiles! It is a truely great sled. Super quiet, 25mpg, bullet proof motor, no stink, only problem is the lack of power. The Turbo on the 2004's solves that problem giving the sled 110hp vs the 45hp mine has. Put a 2 inch track on it and you will go anywhere, be considerably lighter than an RX1, and still have good trail manners.

Tell me again how often you ride in the mountains?

I call BS on this one. Total BS. That sled with or without a 2 inch track will NOT go "anywhere". It will not go where I take my RX1. I would put money on it.
Also you may want to recheck the weights. It is NOT "considerably lighter than an RX1" Cat lists the dry weight (with a 121X1.0) as 575. An RX mountain with a 151X2 (and a longer tunnel) is what 580? 5 lbs with 30 inches more track is DEFINATELY NOT CONSIDERABLE.

You've got that wussy extra extra long track! How challenging is THAT? You just sit yourself down on a 121 and see if you can keep up with me in ANY conditions!
Spoken like a true flatlander. Clueless as to what it takes to make it in the mountains.
If we both jump on shorties and run down trails I'm sure you will do well. I have no interest in that kind of riding. However, if you want to come play in the mountains just let me know.
As a matter of fact Gramps is still willing to drag you and your big bad 121 out here so you can show all of us guys with our "wussy" long tracks how you real men ride the mountains with your 121's.

Trails? Who said anything about trails? I dont ride in trails, do you? Come ride with me in the deep! Your 121 will go down faster than mine.
I *will* ride mountains against you, but it will have to wait until next year when I'll actually have the time and the $$.
