I have a 2003 rx1 that is getting overloaded with fuel. I put brand new plugs (cr10ek) in and after an hour of running they are jet black but not wet . It has a very bad bog when I give it throttle until the engine catches up and then it runs ok. I have cleaned the carbs. Replaced the plugs. Running fresh gas with seafoam. I have not changed the jet sizes or any engine mods. I have replaced all exhaust gaskets and donughts and have a gutted muffler. If anyone could chime in and point me in the right direction of why it might be starving from air. It would be greatly appreciated. I also have not tuned or anything to the carbs. Was thinking about changing/adjusting the air/fuel screw.

Did you clean the float needles also? Where they able to move freely? If even one of them sticks, its going to run really rich.

I did clean the float needles. But I'm going to try cleaning the carbs again.if one float needle was plugged wouldn't just one cylinder be running rich? All the plugs are black.

So I looked at it some more tonight and it's running so rich that it's dumping fuel into the airbox on one carberator. And I'm also getting flames out of the tail pipe. Any help would be awesome thanks.

If you are sure that you have the carbs clean and back together properly then bypass the TORS system as it can cause what you are experiencing. If it works fine this way then you can troubleshoot the TORS. The cable tension or faulty carb or throttle flipper switches are possibilities. There is a post with pictures of how to clean the carb switch.

Float could be sticking.
Floats set right? 13 mm ish for a stocker I recommend. [15 mm for boosted]
Float needles may need replacement. The tips go hard after awhile. Had to replace them on my 05.
Clean the carbs again when you have them apart to check float setting & possibly change the float needles.
Stock jetting is fine. RX-1's like to be fat. Plugs will likely be black even when you get the sled working good.
How does it start & idle when cold?

The sled starts and idles perfect. But as soon as touch the throttle the gas come pouring out of one of tge carbs. I will check the tors. And give it a clean. How do you no if a float needle Is failing or not seating. And how do I check/change float adjustments. Thanks again best winter I've had in years and now it decides to give me trouble.

running rich
Did you solve the problem? I am curious to find out what was done. I think you should check the enrichener plungers. Removing them and cleaning is not normally done during a carb cleaning because they are racked. I remembered that a plunger stuck on my 90 Exciter and it created a similar problem. I can still remember the overwhelming smell of gas when riding slow. A cleaning and a cable adjustment fixed it right up.

I actually ended up sending it to a local repair guy and it was the main jet needle seat or something of that sort plus they were out of sync(sync doesn't have much to do with the abundance offuel that was coming out) but problem is solved and sled is running better then ever before.thanks for all the help and pointers everyone gave me. I'm just glad to be riding again. cheers
