I have a 2018 STX-DX 146 sidewinder that started giving me a SD-12 code with the 5500 RPM. The sled does have 18,000 miles but has all preventive work done. I replaced the battery as a first step and the unit did start fine for 15 time over two days but when I was loading it on the trailer it would only crank over but not fire and the generate the SD-12 code. Should I replace the crank position senor by itself or do both the stator and the sensor. The OEM stator is $400 so I would like to avoid that. Is it best to test the stator with the engine running instead of the OHM test?
Thanks
Thanks

SD12. Dead
Got up this am tried to start 17 winder. Cranks over won’t run. SD12 code. Tried all connections and still same. Anyone replace crank sensor or have this code? thanks
Also if its the crank sensor you will not get it running at all. If its truly a failure(ohms test) will tell you. Don't need to be running. Its been awhile since I changed it but pretty certain you can just replace the sensor not the whole stator and sensor. With those miles I would do the whole thing.

I feel your pain, just went through this a couple of weeks back. Start of a week-long trip, go start it to get it off the trailer and no go, the dreaded sd-12 code. I found a dealer that had the stator so just had them install it as I didn't have all the tools required to do the job with me on this trip.

Jon as I understand it, it can be done but not an easy task. I hear it's pretty complicated replacing just the sensor. Its been awhile since I changed it but pretty certain you can just replace the sensor not the whole stator and sensor.

It can be done as I understand it. BUT that would be done by someone with electrical knowledge. That's not me so much beyond basics. The price is way more now then when I did it. We did the whole works. With the miles on the sled of nov7829 I think its a no brainer just to do both.Jon as I understand it, it can be done but not an easy task. I hear it's pretty complicated replacing just the sensor.

How many miles was your failure at? Just curiousI feel your pain, just went through this a couple of weeks back. Why is the stator hard to change? You have to pull the cover off and remove the mag and then pull the stator.
I've read the magnets are super strong.

Stator is not that hard to change for someone who had motor knowledge.

You could do a visual inspection before ordering parts.

Yeah I mean it's about as challenging as pulling the chain case apart I would imagine.Stator is not that hard to change for someone who had motor knowledge.

We were speaking of JUST replacing the crank sensor. Not the whole assembly.

The hard part is removing the turbo brace bolts. Nothing like doing an Apex.
