I backed my front springs all the way off so the front end sits a bit lower for better handling and a lower center of gravity. It doesn't change the spring rate at all - it just lowers the front end a bit. My limiter is still not very tight either but it is much tighter than it was stock.
BRB said:The front springs are still set as they came from the dealer. Did you back yours all the way off?
I'm a bit heavier than you are.. 230 in street clothes. I set my rear spring to the 2nd clip position and the fourth cam.
From what I can tell, my limiter strap is in the 3rd set of holes but the strap is still not very tight.
Where do you have your transfer set at?
Metallicat said:I just shortened up my limiter by 1 hole, to the 3rd position. Stock was the 4th. I didn't notice any excessive ski lift last weekend, but I ride pretty close to the tank which helps and the snow was pretty loose so it didn't grab that hard in the corners. I didn't want to go any shorter on the limiter strap since it does take away some of the travel of the rear suspension. Did you take off all of the preload off of your front shocks as well? I have my rear spring set to full soft and it supports my 180lbs just fine.
BRB said:Umm..back to the point.
I think I have gotten my Vector LTX to where you started from Metallicat.
When I first got mine the sled would push...bad..like scary bad, and the skis were off the ground a lot. Very light steering effort however.
With the sled just sitting on the garage floor the limiter strap had slack in it so I took it in one set of holes so now it has a slight bit of tension. I also decreased the transfer. Now the sled grabs better but the inside ski lifts like you described in your first thread. I think I need to take it in another set of holes.
What set of holes is your limiter strap set at?

I am sure the springs will soften a bit as the miles accumulate. From where I am at now I can just crank up the preload if needed. I actually hope the front springs relax a bit so that it sits even lower to the snow.
undecided said:Cats - do you think your springs are broke in yet? If the answer is yes, adjust away, if it's no (the likely answer) be a little patient cuz every 100 or so miles things are going to loosen up and you'll wonder why she's not handling like she was.
Just my .02 after 40k miles of riding.

Metallicat,
I let off my front springs about 3/8" each and decreased the transfer to the minimum and wow what a difference. Went out for a 50 mile test run tonight and had a blast.
It can still use some tweaking but nothing major. Good carbides are probably the only thing I will need now.
Thanks for your thread...it sure cut a lot of trial and error out of my set up process.

Great reports guys, I am considering an 08 LTX GT, can you guys tell me if the rear shock spring has been changed for 08? My buddy has the 07 Attack and he needed to upgrade to a heavier rear spring due to excessive bottoming. I would like to know before I buy so it can be changed out before I take it home. I asked the guys at the dealer but they weren't sure.

Cat, glad to hear that you got that thing dialed in. Now you may have to put it back to stock to convince the wife that it is not a nice handling sled (and then switch it back). Just tell her the conditions must have been perfect that day. Lol.

LOL! Yeah, I should have maxed out the rear spring preload and set the RA to full hard when she was riding it. She's starting to like snowmobiling a bit too much...which has me worried that we'll be taking all of our trips together and I will never again ride my Yammi. She hated my ZR last year and only wanted to ride for about 20 minutes.

I read that the spring was changed for 2008 but I really can't confirm how much stiffer it is over the previous year. The valving is much better on the 2008 models. I think they pretty much fixed the bottoming issues.
