I'm getting belt squeal on take off, belt measures 1 3/8" across the top so I know I'm within spec. I also can't get my belt shimmed to the top of the sheave, about 1/8" below. I removed both the shims and running the spring in the A2 position with the ulmer clutch kit. Belt has just over 900 miles. Any ideas?
Thanks
Thanks

Take the belt of and try washing it and let it dry before you put it back on, clean the clutch faces as well with some alcohol and scotch brite. Some time a belt will get a glaze on it causing a squeal. How many miles on the secondary? Could be a weak spring??

If I remember correctly its suppose to be below the sheave according to people on this site. if you have is above you will have reverse problems and the belt will squeal sometime at ideal and sometimes and speed. If you have the sled jacked up the belt will not fully ride back up past the top, unless you let off the the throttle slowly. If you normally ride it all the counter forces you encounter will ride it back up past the sheave.
I run mine no shims!

Just set the belt in there if you are unsure if sheaves are closed all the way.Depending on the belt you use determines where it should ride along with the shims.

Thanks a lot you guys, Sled has just over 900 mi. so I wouldn't think the spring would be getting weak. I will try washing the belt and cleaning the sheaves. When I moved the spring to A2, whats the proper way to load the secondary spring? maybe I assembled it wrong. Anyone try a Carlisle SX805 belt? supposed to be a softer compound.

Do you have reverse? If not belt starting with 8gs is what you should use it will sit higher or just remove shim from secondary. To get proper hieght. To put secondary together choose holes for ends of spring then turn one half till ramp is pushed against the buttons.

Thanks cannondale, I do have reverse, will check the belt number. Would not loading the spring correctly cause the belt slippage?

I'm sure it'd just drop straight down the secondary if it wasn't 'indexed' right.

watch that C clip that holds the helix on the shaft , if it looks bent or weak replace it. Mine shot off at 80 mph and melted my helix and destroyed my countershaft bearing.

Mine came off also.I had it on and off alot maybe consider a new one and look at it closely. They are stamped and one side edge is rounded and other sharp.Put sharp side to outside.

Wierd. I had one snap, takeing it off a 1984 Phazer back in the day. I just saw it the other day looking for my stock wieght transfer blocks in a parts box. Like i couldn't throw it away, keep it as a spare, lol.
