I just bought my 09 FX over the summer and so far this is what I have ordered and plan to start working on it today.

1) pilot Skis, with 7.5 inch Shapers

8) Skid plate
Im also looking into a clutch Kit prob. Ulmers and maybe a header and more studs, going to ride it first then make my decision. Also going to make my own Block off plate Thanks to you know who.

1) Tunnel heat exchanger......gotta keep the engine cool

2) Roest skid plate......protect the engine and front exchanger

3) Subframe gussets......keep the skis pointing in the right direction

4) Trail Tank......theses things don't run very well on fumes

5) Skis/wear bars......no one likes a poor handling sled

As you can see, there is no shortage of must haves for this sled...many which should have been addressed by Yamaha, ie. skis, subframe reinforcement, hand warmers, larger idlers, etc.

Part of the fun though is adding all the extras that you personally feel you need (or afford) on your sled.

Have fun and welcome to the 4 stroke side.

one of the guys from the shop went down to a dealer meeting for sleds and yamaha now makes bigger wheels to cut down on hyfax wear

Thanks guys! Seems like a good topic. Couple questions.
What skid plate are you using?
Is the windy that comes on the RTX a low or mid height? All I can find on the website is low and tall. I was hoping to go with the next step up.
This sled comes with the Fox Floats so are you talking about Hygear springs in the rear?
Thanks for the input!!

Skid plate can be from Roest, Skins, or Yamaha. Either way get. Do a search and decide what route to go on that, as with many things on here a lot of opinions. The fact is anything is far better than nothing at all.

Hygear, they make springs for both the front shocks (Non-RTX) and the center shock in the rear suspension. The center shock spring I believe is a dual twisted, which will help with the stutters, but not be a sponge on the big stuff. Anything Hygear does is great, just be prepared for a bit of sticker shock, but it flat out works and they have a ton of testing to prove their product.

My top five add mods.

1. 128" extension with Hacksaw fully punched.

2. Curve's skis, great product, great company.

3. Ulmer front end bushings.

4. Spoke style wheels with replaceable bearings (haven't had to replace one yet).

5. Of course, skid plate, I went with the Yamaha, but the Roest was not out yet.

Of course I have done other things, but I would consider the above (with the exception of the extension and track) to be mandatory. I would do a lot of reading on here and spend the money fixing the shortfalls in the sled rather than make it faster or louder. The engine will last forever, plenty of time to make it faster. Unless of course money is no object, then buy everything.
