Anyone shim the slydog skies ? I know it helped with the OEM yamaha ones. My slydogs seem to sit straight when held off the floor, shouldn't it handle better if they were more tipped back ? I have the rubbers in big end towards the back. Thanks

I shimmed my skydive on my phazer. It made a big difference.

I used a 3/8" shim and the sled doesn't dart, however I never tried the skis w/o shims. Just figured if the OEM skis needed them, the Slydogs would too. :dunno:

Don't shim them for the sake of just shimming them. Shim them so that the front piece of carbide on the runner is off the ground on a flat surface. I've found that the Slydogs I had didn't need shimming.

Shim too much and while you'll have less steering effort, you will lose ski bite and lose the ability to turn, much like a stock ski.

Thanks im gonna try a 3/8 shim and see what happens, i notice the ski is always sitting flat especially in loose snow, seems like every turn i take the ski is acting like a plow and goes straight until i let off the throttle until a dead crawl then it finally turns.

This is what I did to avoid gluing and setting it up permanently to try different thickness.

What I found with the Slydogs was the need to really push the skis hard by coming hard into a corner and transferring the weight of the sled onto the skis. This would get them to turn for me. I found riding with them conservatively, they wouldn't turn well enough for me, so I went with a different ski.

I shimmed my skis and noticed no difference in anything. Put some Shaper bars from studboy and there is absolutly no problem with turning.

I don't think the shims are meant to help with cornering but rather to help with darting and tracking. The only times I have problems turning the Slydogs is in light snow, and frozen trails, crusty snow - find them real good on the trails but when the trails freeze the skis are difficult to steer but that is more a feature of the SBM Swabar than the ski I think. Also, don't like them in crusty conditions as they cut and swerve and are very unpredictable.
Furg,
If the skis are not turning good on the trails, why not tighten your ski springs or whatever adjustment is on your Nytro front shocks? Also, maybe your front skid shock has too much tension on it or your limiter strap is too loose, thus making the frontend too light. Just some thoughts.
