I have 8" TP Bergstroms. I have been running them for 2 years now and love them. The one downfall is the shims. I just bought my 3rd set of boots and am currently running no shims. I called Scott this week and spoke with him about how they damage the boots and he said he is currently testing a fix but cant say anything about them and it won't be ready this year. I'm sure other people are having this problem. Does anybody have a fix they would like to share? I have a few ideas but Scott told me to make sure I do not go any wider than 1". I was thinking of making shim bigger so pressure is applyed over a wider area and the shim wont sink in but he said not to go any wider than 1". Any ideas??????

No ideas but love the post.
After one season the shims just sink into the rubber and have no effect.

It doesnt make any sense to me why he said not to go wider than 1"? I assume he didnt explain that at all? Did he think you meant longer than 1"? That I could understand as it would effect the angle, but the width doesnt make any sense in my head. You would think that a person would want to run them as wide, and no less, than the boot?

Guys, been running my homebuilt shims for a few seasons now. I'm a big supporter of the idea. I wrote this over on another forum and included some pics of the shim I use on my Apex. Take a look if you like. They're as effective now as the day they were installed.

If I remember right, the original size they said to make the shims is one inch by two inches. I am thinking that Scott is saying don't go wider than one inch because the closer you get to the centre of the boot where the bolt is, the thinner the boot gets and the easier for it to wear through. If you taper that edge that is closest to the bolt, I would think it may help lengthen the life.
I use conveyer belt material, available in different sizes, hard as nails, but soft?? does that make sense? Taper the edge towards the bolt.

Ahicks, not a member of that site and the picks wont come up unless you are. do you have any picks that you can post to this site so you we can see what you did??
Not sure if this is gonna work, but I made my own shims today out of the old rubber boots I had. Made them a less thick than the bergstrom ones and screwed them to the ski. Hopefully they work better. Good thing the boots are cheap!!!!

When done riding the sled, at the end of the day, I tip the front of the ski up. I slide a 2X4 under the front of the skis, to just in front of the spindle. This takes all of the pressure off of the back of the rubber and keeps the shim from ruining it. The rubber will last as long as without the shims.

X-2, how thick is the thickest, (back), part of your shims? I like the tapered design. And the length is just the width of the hyfax, correct? Wonder how these will work with 8" Stud Boy Deuse bars?DigitalFusion said:hey hicks, how thick did you make those shims?
