After working with the stock setup since my first ride, I've determined that I need a stiffer rear spring. If I have to do that, I'd just as soon replace the stock rear shock/spring with something better. My choices include, but are not limited to the following:

Ohlins - setup for my weight and style $459.00 +S/H

Rebuildable Alum. threaded bodied Kayaba w/quick spring adjuster - setup for my weight and style $220.00 + S/H

I've had sleds with Fox shocks, but never anything with a resevoir or a clicker. One concern is the res. getting damaged by ice or debris??? Just looking for some feed-back to make a sound decision.

Thanks

Went with the Ohlins from my dealer. My order was intercepted by Team Chippewa, who needed a Ohlins for the I-500. Turned out to be too stiff and made the sled sit too high. I think they may have put 1 or 2 miles on it if any

Final cost = $408.10 O.T.D.

Did you first try Lazy Bastards setup. Many of us were having constant bottoming and stutter bump issues and his setup helped make it 90% better.

Yep. It worked fine at the first of the year on fairly smooth trails, very well over stutters at 50-70 MPH, up until I'd hit some deep moguls, or a well-run powerline. I last had the dealer setup the suspension: center= MAX pre-load, FRA hard, rear Pre-load Maxed. It would do fine until you landed off a jump or nailed it through G-outs. Corners were especially NASTY. Everybody else thought it was too stiff so I know the components were still good. I definetly needed a stiffer spring/shock setup.

With the Ohlins setup as shipped, slightly less pre-load, FRA on middle I notice added control while running through the rough stuff, and minimal bottoming. On the plus side, a click of the shock should help control this even more. When I sit on the sled in full gear my spacers are about 60/40. Ohlins says 50/50 so I know I'm not riding too low to start with. I also have 5mm shims I could try too. It's funny because I was looking for the rough stuff to try and bottom it this time. The Ohlins mad a HUGE difference - cheaper than an M10 or Expert X and well worth the money too :D
