I'm lookingt for help on removing the rear upper shock on my 06 RTX. How/where do I remove the manual adjustment cable that is connected to the side tunnel?
What page in the 600 and something page manual is the instructions?
Thanks,
Will

ok, the 3 cap screws that hold the dial to the tunnel should be removed. they are 5 mm allen. let the dial lay in the suspension. next lift the rear end up so the track is off the ground. ( if it hasnt been done already) next loosen the bolts on each side of the rear axle. now look through the windows in the track and line them up with the nuts in the back. ( they are 14mm) loosen those nuts almost all the way off. now push the rear axle and wheels forward to loosen the track. then from both sides working your way forward from the rear, remove the suspension bolts. then just work the skid from out of the track and out from under the sled. DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT disconnect the dial from the shock and turn it.

So the whole skid has to be removed? The shocks can't be simply removed by removing the bolts from the ends?
What page in the service manual does it describe the skid removal?
Thanks
Will

An 06 RTC you have? So you have the mono suspension. If so, then yes the shock can be removed from the skid frame without removal of the skid itself. The RA dial itself is another procedure to remove, do that first. But after you remove the two bolts you can maneuver the shock out.

Seems like a big deal but taking out the Mono skid is pretty easy. Once it's out you can have your way with it. Wheels sliders rail caps powdercoating.

If I remember right you turn the dial counter clock wise until it stops, then you can unhook the cable and remove the shock.

Yes, I just checked and you do turn it counter clock wise, towards the hard setting. You unhook the cable at the shock. Hope this helps

It's an 06 RTX with a large shock (that has the dampening cable and a lower shock (without a spring). So, full clockwise and disconnect cable at shock as opposed to first post's instructions?

Turn the dial counter clockwise to full hard. If u remove the shock and don't turn the cable to full hard then to reinstall so that u have the full range of adjustment turn the adjuster in the shock full clock wise which sets it to hard, (I use the end of a file which is square that fits in the hole) . Then turn then dial to full hard (counter clockwise). The cable turns the opposite way of the knob.

Maybe I should take this in to a mechanic.....Even the simplest things...
Clockwise to full hard? Clockwise on my dial makes it softer. Same dial in the picture of Actionjacks link

My post said the dial turn counter clockwise for hard, The adjuster in the shock u turn clockwise for hard. The adjuster in the shock turns opposite of the dial.

Sorry, my mistake. I should read a little more thoroughly.
Thanks for the help.
BTW, do I have a mono-shock rear skid?? 06 RTX

Try this
Go to home page
click technical pages
click snowmobile tech
click chassis/rear suspensions
click mono shock remote adjuster maintenance
see if that what your trying to do.

Thats perfect. So I guess what I thought was the lower shock, is called a "transfer rod". Thats why I didn't think I had a mono-shock skid.
