I just changed from the 10mm to the 5mm thick spacer washers on the rear transfer rods. Supposed to give better (more) transfer on initial transfer before the suspension links up. I noticed that there is a space between the bottoming bolt and the new spacer. Will this work out by the suspension on its own or do I have to shorten the threaded rod, or do nothing and this is the way its supposed to be? Just doesn't look right with the 5mm space between the spacer and bottoming bolt. Tx for any help.

You adjust the position of the control rod space with the main spring preload. Spec calls for the gap to be about 50/50. The lower spacer takes effect when you let up on the gas.

I'm not sure I understand, but therei s a metal washer between the bolt and the plastic spacer. any space would be above the plastic washer, not below it. Does that make sense? I did this mod to and I think the sled rides better.

Tx LB & Buckeye. The bolt and washer screw into the threaded rod which the suspension rides up and down on. Yes, the washer and spacer falls down to the bolt head so the space is above not below. What is showing is the space on the threaded rod and the suspension has the gap in it (between the suspension and the new thinner washer.) If I understand you correctly LB, by adjusting the spring tension on the rear shock the suspension will lower to take up that space which was occupied by the larger washer? Maybe this is just a replace the thicker washer with a thinner on but I don't like the rod being exposed to dirt and trail junk if it does not have to. Also LB you said adjust the space 50/50. What did you mean by that?

When seated on the macine the spaces should be equal on both sides of the piece with the grease fitting on it.

This part is meant to slide around - don't worry about exposure. When you're on the gas, the upper vinyl washer is tight, this limits how much ski lift you get. When you are off the gas or on the brake, the lower one is tight, this, combined with the limiter straps, controls how much ski pressure you get on slowdown (both work together, you can decrease the vinyl washer and loosen the straps at the same time with negligible effect). When you're just cruising, your gap at the upper washer is equal to the gap at the lower washer.
And BTW: That rod is called the "control rod" or "transfer rod".
Also, normally, when one referrs to "threaded rod", they are referring to external threads. Thats just a tapped shaft.
