All sleds studded with 96 in the middle all stock. Approximately 700 miles on both turbos and 400 on 850. I raced my buddy's 17 ZR 9000 limited with the 850 twice from a dead stop. One time on a groomed trail to about 85 or so and then on a lake with flat packed snow till 850 speedo read 102 and the 9000 read 95. Both times 850 jumped out about 10-15 feet and stayed there. We raced later that day with my sidewinder vs his 9000 on a bumpy part of the lake. Sidewinder jumped out about five feet then he kept pace. Sidewinder maxed out at 96 and 9000 was 95 on speedo. Why Do you think the 850 was faster? I'm thinking maybe the turbos tracks are spinning due to not enough studs?

Maxed out at 96? You must have been in a lot of snow huh?
I have noticed that they do slow quite a bit when in 4-5" of snow but still should get more then 96 speedo wise.

I didn't notice during the races but the sidewinder jumps up to 9100 then settles at 8900

Need to put the third plugs in! American snowmobiler mag just had there real world shoot out results in. The 850 was was well behind every inch of the test from start to finish in mph and et! "Quote from article" The real eye popper was the Yamaha Sidewinder. We knew it'd be quick, but we didn't know it was this quick. Bottom line is all things equil 850's don't beat Sidewindere!

I read that and many other posts on forums. The turbos should be faster. I'm trying to figure out why mine isn't. I understand the races weren't set up very well but they were side by side and the 850 won

Well if you read the article than you can see it don't get any more fare than how they do there shootout and there was two 850's there with the same results so it wasn't a fluke.

Other than the sidewinder in the shootout being run on a different day I agree with you. I'm just looking to get the turbo sleds to perform the best they can. We were just fooling around in the trail and were very surprised the 850 pulled ahead for the short race so we found the lake and ran them longer with the same outcome. Trust me I want the sidewinder to be faster. The 850 is my wife's sled and she's never going to let me live it down

Yes it was. That's why I'm trying to figure out why I was able to beat the ZR 9000 on the 850. Any idea?

96 studs is not near enough in a sled of this power! And put some transfer in to it. Otherwise what does your wife give you for letting her win? LOL

Stock untouched 850 vs Sidewinder. An 850 should jump a Sidewinder out of the hole.
Sidewinder is going to need transfer to bring things closer from a dead stop.
I've watched an 850 give it to a sidewinder on more than one occasion.
Next....My Sidewinder went 121mph in less then perfect conditions.
Your Sidewinder needs transfer set up. And something simple needs to be addressed on top speed. No biggie.
Start another thread. Or maybe someone will see this one and give you a hand.
Your fine

Will more transfer mean worse cornering? What's the simple thing that needs to be address on top speed?

Search "removing transfer blocks" and let the skid strap out all the way. You'll need to ride it and decide for yourself. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. As most have already done it.
Lastly, clutching. Some guys are experiencing spring coil bind in both primary & secondary. Peek thru the last few pages. You'll find topics discussing issues. Springs are collapsing to the point where they are rubbing on one another and not allowing clutch to function near the end or overdrive.
I'll be popping off my clutches to check it out. But honestly, I have no worries. Sled runs very good.
LTX SE should be a rocket. As they seem to have the fewest amount of problems. Or so I've been told

Perhaps you're not broken in enough yet. 4 strokes take a lot longer to break in...and that's the truth!! Two strokes are good to go in 300-500 miles. 4 strokes(my Apex 2007) didn't start waking up till well after 800 miles, and really started to rock after 1000 miles. Became a whole different beast once she broke in and loosened up. Give her time..she should come around..then it'll be lights out.
