Sidewinder Skid Plate

I received my bop Sidewinder skid plate and all I can say is work of art. Powdercoated red. Looks great! Now I just need the sled home to install.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's about time we have something from Yamaha that actually works on the SideWinder (well kinda works anyway). Better order them quick. They will probably be back ordered in a few days

Alright. My dealer got in a Viper rear plate and it will work on the winders with a little modification. They have not performed it yet. I had to ok it tonight before they went ahead and started cutting a $150 skidplate. From what they could tell holding it up, all that will need to be done is to cut the 2 front tabs off and to widen the exhaust hole a little bit. Possibly new/widening of the screw holes in the plate as well. Once complete and I finally pick the sled up I will try to post a cpl pix and let you know how it turns out. My best guess would be next week, as they have to order a 2nd one for my Dad's sled. Here is a pic showing the ares in red that will need to be modified.

What specific part order is this? What are you putting it on (I.E. does it matter which SW model (( LX/DX/etc...)?
What is it made out of?

I like the full coverage but am leaning more towards BOP's skid...

Thanks

The Rear Skid Plate gives full coverage protection for your clutch, exhaust, and chain case components. The Rear Skid Plate can be used with front skid plate or SRViper Front Bumpers.

They are plastic.
It's going on a LTX-LE, Also had it on my '15 Viper RTX-SE. I would think it fits any model. Using the fitment thing on Yamaha's page and selecting 2016 it lists it fitting MTX, RTX, LTX, STX Vipers.

I went with the aluminum BOP skid plate and will be installing raceworks protectors for brake and chaincase. My Yamaha plastic skid plate has two 3 in long cracks in on my nytro aluminum from here on out none of that plastic crap!

I would think the plastic cracking is a good thing. You know it took the impact and not the sled. I would think the aluminum protectors would transfer that impact force right through to the sled. Cars have crumple zones for a reason.

Not to mention that if you hit a rock with aluminum it will stop you dead in your tracks instead of gliding over it.

Finally got the sled home. Here are a cpl pix of the skidplate

Where they cut by the exhaust is still kinda close. When I get around to it I think I will trim that area a bit more. Also going to add a few small holes in the ribbed parts so any water that ends up there will drain.
