Sidewinder Skid Plate

Ok here's the deal........... My dealer had his tech ask if the viper rear plate will fit the winder when he went to the tech update class 2 weeks ago. Yamaha did not know. My dealer called Yamaha and asked...Again they did not know and were going to put in a call to the specs dept. Dealer heard from Yamaha last week and they were still waiting for the engineer to get back to them.... My dealer has since ordered the plate and will see if it fits when they get it in. How hard is it for Yamaha to take a stupid plate and hold it there to see if it fits? Now I got to thinking about it and I am thinking that maybe the rear plate will work, but I don't think it can be used with the normal sidewinder skid plate they are now offering. The original 2 plates on the vipers were the rear and a small part they called the front plate. That front plate 100% would not work on the SideWinder. I am still hoping the rear one will. I would settle for that alone to protect the chain case. The only other thing I can think is buying a pickle protector if they fit.. (I hope it was ok to say that here)

Thats a good plan with Viper rear. I never put front one on since all the good bumpers cover the front section underneath just fine. Would think the Winder bumpers will also.

It will not fit, we put one up against the winder at the dealer, no go

Thank You. That sucks :( guess the only option is to talk to the pickle protector people. Anyone ever use one before? Are they hard to install?

The options in the yamaha accessories catalog are limited all the way around. Viper has better protection options for plate. Sidewinder has 1. BOP's is way better for Sidewinder and has powdercoat option. That is why I went with it. Maybe if there is enough interest Travis can come up with something that addresses the extra coverage.?

I believe I saw one in the catelog that was for the 17' 9000, should fit. I bought the viper one from CAT and it fit great.

Yes there is a plate offered that fits the viper and winder, but it does not look to cover the the 1 thing that needs to be covered. The chain case.

The wheels are spinning in my head!

The pickle protectors look nice and robust. Is there any reason why guys don't want to use that? Just wandering what I need to address if I design something?

I would get anything that would be compatible/ compliment the BOP plate since I already have that. Sounds like the chain case is vulnerable. I do 90% on trail, but wouldn't mind some just in case protection as well.

Add some wings on yours to cover both sides. It could be 3 piece to work with what you have already. That would be better than anything since main could be removed for oil change and sides left on avoiding removing a bunch of bolts or rivets into the bodywork. Even OEM requires alot of drilling. I dont use Pickle Protector because I would rather slide over something than get stopped and go over bars. Full skid glides over the junk.

Pickle protector is only for the chaincase side, correct? I would like something for each side to cover both the chaincase and the brake rotor cover. If you can come up with something that looks nice Travis, I'm in. Every alternative out there right now is expensive so I would think you could make some money on these!

Has anyone tried the racewerx ones on the sidewinder that looks like the best bet if Travis doesn't come up with something I have the BOP skid plate would love something to go with that.

Maybe a BOP conversion kit to fit with his skid plate?
